I work in finance and this is so very true about buying a house especially if your an independent business. It’s not an overnight process and banks want to see that your being responsible. Great job explaining.

Thank you for being transparent about your financial rationale. I am a big believer in buying used as well. I've found it difficult to convince friends that it is a bad idea. I hope that with more people discussing these sorts of decisions and giving an example will influence others for the better. If you hadn't said the vehicle was used, I imagine most people would have assumed it was brand new.

Credit score is such a weird concept from a European perspective. I kind of get why Mari's parents didn't chose that route. Thanks for the financial explanation though, very interesting to understand why a credit score is important

Isn’t that something - you have to go into debt and pay interest to show that you’re credit-worthy. It makes sense - there’s no other metric to go by but I was in the same boat when I was in college 20 years ago. My parents were the same about credit cards so I grew up with the mentality that debt is bad. In essende, no credit is worse than bad credit.
