I decided that it was time to take the leap! I've always used spinning rods/reels but I wanted to upgrade my arsenal and try out a baitcasting rod and reel! I've never used a baitcaster before so this was definitely an interesting experience!
Thank you all for showing so much support! We're almost at 1,000 subscribers! Craziness! Special video coming out at 1k! Lets keep this rolling!
Setup:
►Rod: Abu Garcia Vendetta
www.cabelas.com/product/ABU-GA...
►Reel: Shimano Casitas 151hg 7:2:1 gear ratio
www.cabelas.com/product/SHIMAN...
►Line: Berkley Trilene XL 12 lb
Cut me some slack! I am extremely new to this kind of reel haha. I'm sure there are still many more birds nests to come. Tight lines yall.
Fishing was done at Becks Pond in Newark, Delaware

I'm still getting used to my baitcaster and getting pretty good at it. I find that overhead casting will typically give you a bird's nest. Side casting is smoother and results in a farther cast
@EclipseGamingVideosHD

I'm pretty much in the same boat, I've learned that if you accelerate too quickly on your cast that it will back-lash. You can cast however hard that you want, but you need to be smooth.

If anyone hasn't said it yet, the one thing that changed my casting and how much I bird nested was learning to stop the spool with my thumb right before the bait hits water. Also, u may feel the line try to birdnest mid cast, DONT STOP IT, 9 times out of ten it will correct itself before it hits the water.

I don't know why everyone is complaining so much, yes I know the line wasn't through the line guide but I think that using mono was a good idea because braid is hard to get out of a backlash and it's pricy, and baitcasters aren't exactly that easy to use when you first get them.

I just picked up a baitcaster for the first time since I was around 14. I'm 30 now. Glad to see a video with someone struggling like I did at first. About 2 months later running 25lb braid and I feel like a pro, even though I'm obviously not lol

just a suggestion...if you keep your thumb on the spool while your reelingvin i helps keep the line tight to the spool so you dont have as much loose line and a little bit extra weight always helps when your learning to cast a baitcaster hope that helps and great video!

5:18 when i got my first baitcaster, this was that moment in time that I realized I spent hundreds on a rod/reel that I can't cast, and birdnests almost ever cast. I turned my ass around, returned it and bought the nicest spinning rod/reel for the money and never looked back. Granted I know with practice you overcome a baitcaster. But I'd rather spend the money on a system that works and I get instant gratification and joy using. I'll stick to spinning reels
@longpointfishmaster947

lol. i have many nice spinning reels, but since i tried bait casting i barely touch my spinners. with bait casters you need smooth cast with out hiccups, and set them up properly. fyi the shimano dc reels take a lot of the set up out of it. i set it once and never have to touch it for the rest of the season.

A tip that may help, when you cast, keep your thumb lightly pressed against the spool. It'll help control the amount of line coming off your spool and help reduce birds nests.

No hard feelings man, I also used only spinning rods and reels for years then leaped over to bait casters. The learning curve is real with them, I actually bird nested mine so bad in the process of learning it that I had to re spool the entire thing "After letting it sit in the garage for about a year" I actually decided to just spool it with braid, I just thought in my head "Well this is the most difficult to use in a bait caster so If I get this down I'll be done with it" That's what ended up working for me, I learned with a 40lb braid which turned out to be easier to remove bird nest from, and I haven't had problems casting since.
