Thanks to this video, I mounted a reactor pro size 5 plate (instead of the recommended size 7) on a size 7 Moxi Lolly boot. I had previously skated on the stock Powerdyne Thrust plate, which has a 149mm wheelbase. The size 5 reactor plate has a 150mm wheelbase, so I'm still super agile and can dance skate as well as go to the park. I was worried that I would feel less stable with the short back mount, but I've dropped in on a mini ramp and have had no problems doing everything else I used to do on the Thrust plates. The metal plate is just super responsive and agile, and not too heavy. If you're someone that is into dance skating as well as park skating, I would recommend giving the smaller plate size a try! Especially if you're used to a certain wheelbase anyway :) Thanks for this video!!

Thanks for this detailed explanation. I wish I saw this before buying my skates. I bought a pair of CCM Hockey boots that had a shorter plate added to them ( not sure of the size) but they were short to the ones I had previously. I got used to them eventually and then bought a pair of flaneurz skates. These are really nice but the plate is longer than the CCM. If I had known I would've asked for a shorter plate.

This time I will go all out buying a pair. I always had cheap skates and spins were a nightmare. I think it was due to horrible plates and having NO IDEA of what your video here just explained!!!! TY very much! I am wanting to get a pair of Moxi Lollies custom with Arius Platinum plates. Will use the asphalt trails and then when Covid ends use them at the rink. I gotta get those spins in! That’s great! I’m always a fan of having all the information before buying. If you’re going to a skate shop to look at options, the sales staff should be able to make recommendations too! I’ve never tried them so I’m afraid I can share my own experiences about that particular plate.

Nylon plates tend to be less responsive. My first derby setup and my first lolly setup had nylon plates that I eventually upgraded. They're fine for starting out until you know what you want. Great Vid. Thanks. 👍❤😁 Are Avenger or Avanti plates really more wobbly? I know you can turn sharper on them. ....also, do you place the rear wheel centre right in the middle of your heel if you want to stand up straight? Had many skates over the years, always fitted (often very poorly) by a shop (here in the U.K.) so thought I might choose and fit my own this time. 😁
@MartinaakaCherri3 жыл бұрын
The higher the kingpin degree, the more agile you can be. But agility can also be controlled with your cushions/action. If your skates feel wobbly/unstable, that’s an action issue, not a kingpin angle issue. I like the back axle to line up with my ankle bone.

@davidjones26242 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this useful summary. The piece of the jigsaw that I am still missing though is what makes one plate more suitable for a particular style of skating, and not another? In other words, why have you selected the three different makes/models for park, dance and derby. If you could get the same angle and wheelbase, would the derby ones be as suitable for dance, or vice versa? If not, why?
@MartinaakaCherri5 күн бұрын
@@davidjones2624 sorry I missed a bunch of messages and I’m just getting caught up. My derby derby plate is positioned more forward because I skate in a low, forward position. I can dance in them, but the forward position of the rear wheel would require me to make some balance adjustments. Could I play derby in my dance setup? Sure! But I would have to adjust to make sure it don’t “tip forward” with the rear short mount. There are many who have one setup and it works for all their skating disciplines! That’s perfectly fine! That’s how I started with by blue suede skates (I skate-parked and rollerdanced in them). Hope that clarifies.

Also some plates do not fit tiny wheels such as rollline blaster plate, i cant even put on Moxi Fundae 57mm wheels coz the cushion touches the ground.
@sebsuch4 жыл бұрын
That said, do you think I can change the angle on a specific plate ?
@MartinaakaCherri4 жыл бұрын
Plate angles are fixed, as far as I know. To change the kingpin angle would require a new tap into the plate at a different angle. However I’m concerned your kingpin isn’t clearing the ground - 57mm aren’t that small of a wheel. Have you checked whether your kingpin is screwed into the plate properly? I know of other skaters who have had similar problems and it was because their kingpin was loose.
@MartinaakaCherri4 жыл бұрын
That being said - I’m not really familiar with roll line - so maybe low ground clearance is their thing.

Derby skates are actually better for long distance and speed skating. I don’t get near the same speed in my high boots as I do for my low boots. @MartinaakaCherri4 жыл бұрын
Are you talking a figure (high heeled) boot? You could - I’m not sure what the responsiveness would feel like. The only limitation would be whether the rear plate holes reach the heel for proper drilling.
