Took a little road trip to Western Wisconsin, and bought a trailer load of Cherry wood. The plan is to process this into two different sizes. The first size is going to be standard 16 inch pieces, while the second is going to be 12 inch pieces. Now the larger pieces are probably going to range between 14 inches to 16 inches in length. The smaller pieces are going to range from 10 inches to 12 inches. That was the advice that I got from the gentleman that owns the Firewood and land management company that I purchased the wood from. This load of cherry is slightly over one cord. I reckon the plan will be to split 50-50 with the various sizes.
I already may have a buyer for about 2/3 of this wood, but I need to do a little math and figure out if it’s a good deal for me or not. I believe I can charge more for smoking wood than I can for regular mixed hardwood. In my case, the mixed hardwood is mostly ash mixed with maple.
Stay tuned for part two, where we unload the dump trailer and get it all stacked up into two piles, big stuff and little stuff.
Have a great day Around the Yard!
