You can add a chicken wire tube standing vertical to help the small baitfish. They will quickly learn its safe inside . Or you can section off a corner with chicken wire so the baitfish can actually spawn. I've done it for years in my mini ponds and actually have golden shiners spawning year round

When you stock with minnows again, because it's an open pond, you should try putting a trailcam up next to it. I imagine many forest critters enjoy the minnows too.

Definitely need to put more rocks along with wood structures . The minnows and smaller bait fish do well at hiding in the rock crevices. Most definitely need places for the bait to hide.
@lojofishing2 жыл бұрын

@CHUCKYL0VE2 жыл бұрын
Yea I agree, small fish do hide well in rocks so it will help the adults for sure but they usually go shallow to spawn or will lay eggs on floating structures

@@lojofishing An idea for that issue with the waterflow under the pond...if it happened once than it will happen again. The only way to really fix it is to route a drainage system either into the pond (which is probably not going to work because of the trail/road) or make a waterway under the road and around the pond that empties into the spillway you already have. Also,it is a liner so be careful with the chicken wire not to puncture the liner. I would just find small dead brush to put in there or get a milk crate weighed down with some rocks tied on the inside.
