That piston has evidence of metal mites(preignition/detonation)all over the crown. The skirt has obviously tried to seize itself to the cylinder bore. Great video, hope you can get a usable rig put together out of both quads.

Nice job and to the point. It was a big year for 250x coming into the shop, we had 3 at the same time, then we had 3 1984 200es three wheelers come in on the same truck. A good break from the high tech, late model stuff coming in all beat up. Keep up the steady flow of machines that make it to the ride portion of the show.

Great addition to your video's would be to show what brand and type of products you use (oil, filters, pistons, rings, gaskets, ...) and include the price you bought it for (even if it was from craigslist or eBay). This gives a better idea for beginners! Great video

23:27 high comp piston is back in it when head goes on lol. Don't blame you, I would've cleaned it up & put it back in as well. Yeah it's seen some heat, but it'll be fine as long as there aren't any sharp edges. Sand it with some fine grit paper, clean it up, slap it in & send it.

Yeah actually the cylinder to wall clearance on the other cylinder and piston was way too small. It was rubbing. So I had to use the other piston and cylinder.

If you lube the valve stems with LM grease, when you do the first start up it smells like a race paddock (Castrol R smell). I know this because I fixed many dozen Lada cars under warranty where the fault was that the play between valve stem and guide was excessive. I would replace the guide, ream it out, then grind and lap in the new valves. It was lucrative warranty work, and I could do 2 cars in an 8 hr day, through practice! Love the vids, keep them coming.

Don't know how you are getting all these quads. I like to always use a feeler gauge when checking ring gap. I check both the old rings, and new rings. Also, I push the rings down evenly with the piston when checking gap.

i dont know how you have that much patience :) its motivating to see you work on bikes and fixing them... but its harder to do then look at in a video.. damn i have been working on a adly 300 (honda trx300ex with different plastics) and it was working then it started choking it self like half gaz worked more it died... so i changed carb, nothing changed again nothing changed to a pwk34 carb quad worked i was like okay those carbs are dead or need a clean so then i toke a carb from a quadbike i know worked (i got alot of adly 300 parts and quads) but so the quad started again and worked for 20sec and then the cdi burned a hole, so i toke a other cdi that for some reason had spark but didnt start the quad so i toke on of a working quad the quad worked for 5min i tought it was fixed then it died and wouldnt start again 10min later it started ran for 20sec and died then it just kept starting and dying, so spark plug was all dry black so i put a different one in it, nothing the quad still just started and died, or u had to give it full gaz to keep it alive.. so i checked the valves those were a bit off so i set those good, and still wouldnt start or just once and die... and now the starter died.. and i dont have a extra one.. so at this point im kinda tired of it.. then again im slow and i have been trying to fix this quad for 4 days now you really got alot of patience and motivation to keep on doing it something taking it all apart and looking for the fix.... (i dont have a garage so i dont take engines appart outside that a bad idea..).

You don't need RTV on those gaskets if the mating surfaces are clean. It's better without it, that was it doesn't get into the engine and block oil passages.

I've recently started watching your videos and a few times you had nice looking bikes but the plastic was scratched. I just wanted to point out that you could possibly use the same material use for polishing plastic headlight lenses and it will remove all the scratches. And there's a good possibility that Automotive polishing compound and a good buffer really improve the looks of those bikes I wish it one point you would try that very curious as to how it turn out
@mikewhitley11832 жыл бұрын
Good afternoon I'd like to ask a question. I was wondering someone with your talents why you don't pressure wash those nasty bike before you do an in-frame rebuild? Could that possibly be stainimg from the mud? Your gasket surfaces could be cleaned very nicely by a 3M product that you insert in your drill and it will not destroy gasket services. Personally I think you rely on RTV too much and it would probably save you some money If you would just clean the surfaces. Anyway enough BS you have a great afternoon looking forward to your next video
