its a 2018? According to KBB they came out in 2008 and the last year was 2017. I bought a 2012 Yamaha Raider S last year and it was new with 1 mile. If yours is a 17' or 18' either way they are almost exactly alike in all year models. Enjoy.

@Ross Malagarie I checked my bill of sale and the sales person hand wrote 2018. I did check my registration and it says 2017. But you are correct 2017 was the last year. The only thing I can think of that would have misled him and then me was my Raider arrived in December with a shipment of 2018 Yamaha Bolts. I bought it in December but did not pick it up until after the winter melt in May. At any rate, thanks for pointing that out and I corrected my statement.

@marshboii Hey marshboii. Absolutely. Still enjoy it. Tons of power and never lets me down. I still get compliments on all the time, and people don't believe me when I tell them it's a 2017. As a matter of fact, I just made my last payment on it a few days ago. So that feels good, too. Other than the accessories I added to it, it is still stock. Even the pipes. I think I am going to add a removable trunk to it for trips this year. Thanks for asking.

I’m a Harley guy at the present but have come close to buying this bike before. Yamaha makes a great bike as a former Royal Star Venture owner. In my 45+ years of buying bikes It’s my opinion that you can pretty much tell how well a bike has been maintained just by looking at it. Of course you have to do your due diligence and inspect it. These bikes are a great bang for the buck. Had a chance to pick up a new 2015 for $9k in 2017 from a dealer just wanting to unload it. Still kicking myself for that one. My favorite color too the Red and chrome. Oh the could of ...should of ...would of,lol. They make a good touring bike too because all you have to add is add a sissy bar to strap a bag to. In these days of full dress touring bikes there’s something to be said for touring on a bike like this especially if you’re solo.

You hit the nail on the head! In most cases, I know in the first 30 seconds whether or not I'll buy a bike. That's what I love about motorcycles (compared with cars/trucks) -- it's all right there so you can see/hear/feel whatever you need to. It's hard to cover things up. I've sold a few royal stars over the years, and one yamaha venture. Those are smooth bikes. I think if yamaha had made them fuel injected, they would've continued to sell. But I guess they have a brand new re-designed model available now. Thanks again for watching and commenting!

I learned about this bike the other week. My first and last motorcycles were Yamaha. I haven’t been on a bike in very very long time. But my girl and I are looking at getting back on so I’m doing my research. And where am I? Right back to the damn Yamaha! And I have fallen in love with this bike. Especially some of the custom mods I’ve seen people on KZbin have done. Now I want to find out what the differences between the 2008 to the I believe 2023 models now, are. Since I’m going to customize it won’t really matter if it’s brand new or not.

Hi Jon. I'm torn between the Fat Bob and the Raider. From a mechanical (Engineering) point of view, my perception is that the Raider is the smarter, more reliable, more financially sensible buy. But then, I tend to like the stockiness of the Fat Bob very, very much. I would prefer to apply the bike primarily for outrides, but also for the local bread run now and then. I am 6.1 and weights in at 190. As you rightfully mentioned, having respect for the bike and your own capabilities, none of these should proof to be a problem for someone with not as much riding experience.

@JonsMotoGarage
@JonsMotoGarage 5 жыл бұрын
@@PhatMasterTony The raider sits nice and low to the ground and is well balanced (not real top heavy). At your height, I don't think it would feel too big, even as a new bike. As far as the power and torque, as long as you start out easy and reserved, you shouldn't have an issue. People get themselves hurt even on small bikes starting out when they don't respect the machine and don't practice the basics (starting, stopping, turning, etc.). Once you have the fundamentals dialed, the bike size doesn't matter as much. I'm only 5'8" and I have no problem even on heavy full baggers (vulcan nomad, road glides, etc.). Try to get into a dealer that'll let you sit on a few to get the feel. Keep me posted if you end up getting one! Happy hunting!

@RJSoftware2000
@RJSoftware2000 5 жыл бұрын
So the belt is less maintenance, that's good to know. On some bikes the chains seem too weak, high tendency to stretch and conseqe eat the sprockets. But I imagine maybe some belts the same. No sprocket wear but constant adjustment. But sounds like the Raider isnt one of them. Subscribed

@@RJSoftware2000 Thanks for the sub, brother! I buy/sell on the side as a hobby, so I don't put tons of miles on all the bikes that cycle through the garage. Hey what cruiser/sportbike would you recommend for a 6,1-6-2 300lbs beginner guy that just uses it to commute to and from school/work(doing errands, and occasionally riding for fun)? This, or something bigger? Smaller even? The major goal is to not get bored of the bike as intend to have it for a while. Great video btw!!
@JonsMotoGarage
@JonsMotoGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking the video! First, I'd try to narrow down if you want to go with a sport bike or cruiser. There are lots of videos regarding that specifically. Definitely pros and cons to both. And the right bike also comes down to what your plans are with it. Short daily commute, weekend warrior, bar hopping, cross country touring, etc. I always recommend doing additional research regarding reliability and long term use as well, since most of my experiences are based on short rides/initial impressions. With that being said, here are a few cruisers you might consider looking into: yamaha raider, roadliner, or stratoliner (all 1900cc) yamaha v-star 1300 or 950 kawasaki vulcan 900 (slightly smaller) or 1600 (nomad, classic) suzuki boulevard c90 or c90t I would add the Honda VTX 1300, but they're all carburetor so I wouldn't mess with it. If you like the chopper style, the Honda Fury is a consideration. The Raider is big/relatively heavy, but it sits nice and low to the ground, and is well balanced. Hope this helps somewhat in getting you started on your new bike search!

After a couple of years searching I saw one but it had aftermarket pipes. The to in one with kind of wrap around. Ugly ugly ugly. The OEM pipes on this bike are to me, the best designed ones in the motorcycle industry. I’m sad to see that manufacturer don’t build cruisers anymore. Only HD still doing it. Jon, how tall are you? I’m just shy of 5’9.5” with a 30” and inseam…since I seen this video I’ve been fighting with myself between this and the M109….I haven’t seen a raider locally for me to sit on and see, but you think I’ll be comfortable and able to reach the foot controls with the looking so far forward?

I'm 5'8" (not sure on inseam) so you shouldn't have any problem with the raider. I find it to be overall a lot more comfortable than the m109r.
