What's the power on the rod you're using? Are you comfortably casting lures outside of the weight window? Seems like most of the lures you carry are over 1oz.

that rod is a Gloomis E6X inshore, Fast Action Medium Heavy rated for 12 - 18 pound test. I'm running 15 pound test Super Slick V2 braided line. The rod is rated for up to 3/4 OZ but I will push it to 1.5 Oz. Thats max for sure. It cast's 3/4 oz lures very well you can rip on it hard. with the 1.5 oz lure you have go do things in slow motion or you might snap the tip. The rod has tons of power, you could play a 20 pound chinook on it i'm sure. It brought this 8 pound coho in with ease. Cheers!

Just curious. Are you able to use treble hooks fishing for salmon in the ocean?

Depends on your area - you should always review the regulations. For example in BC (Canada) in most areas you can use barbless trebles so just pinch the barbs on the custom hook that comes in the package The treble hook in the 3" and above is a custom made hook, so if you can use it you should. The exception is some river mouths and deltas so best to always check when you know where you are going. In Washington and Oregon you need a single barbless hook for salt water salmon, and Alaska is variable based on location and time of year. Buzzbomb Tackle sells a specific single hook bumper, and also sells the Z-zingl hook and bumper pack (has 6 of each in it).

@@fishotherapyadventures I prefer a single hook for all scenarios. If you maintain tension you have that 1 big unobstructed connection to the fish. Also easier to remove.

Great info on the rod, thanks. My question is…was that a Zinger? Did you use spinner wire to secure it in place meaning moving up and down but still allowing it to spin?

The lure is a "Spinnow" by Buzz Bomb. It does have a wire threaded through, it is manufactured that way. There are unique benefits to the Spinnow, Zzinger and Buzzbomb. I personally prefer the Zzinger for most applications, but I love everything made by Buzz Bomb.

If you're in an area where you can't keep a wild fish, please consider releasing them quickly instead of submitting them to unneccesary handling for pics, etc.

You can tell it's a wild before you even pull it out of the water, but you walked up the rocks showed the camera and even edited out a spot in the video where you put the fish down on the rocks before releasing it ("we gotta let this girl go!!"). It's probably fine but don't pretend you took good care of it. If you were really that involved you'd probably know to let it go right at the shore. Sorry for being a badger lol

@@aaronwilde your totally right. It was a clumsy release. It had the line wrapped all around her snout, it was a tricky one to deal with. With all that said, you are actually allowed to keep 2 wild coho in that area but I let them go regardless. @@chainsawmilling Fair enough. Good on you for admitting it. Even the best of us could probably do a little better for the fishes sake these days. Also fishing off those shore rocks is tough as hell to treat fish well even with a net and small waves. You handled it better than most would have in those situations. Looks really fun.
