Jenny Medina i started to tear up a bit. I never interacted with my grandmother and she passed away 7 years ago. I missed out on her wisdom and her cooking. She used to send me maíz crudos (a corn cookie) and they were the best. I never learned the recipe. 😢

I just made some pupusas, and my advice on making them is that the dough must be very moist, and the fillings should not be cold. For instance the cheese should be semi-melted so that it has a smooth consistency.

I agree, the dough HAS to be moist. I usually wet my hands when making them if they start drying out. Keep the dough covered between making them.

I’m half Puerto Rican and half Salvadorian. My salvi grandmother has to be coerced into teaching me to make pupusas. She’s never withheld from me that she couldn’t fully love me because she didn’t like that I’m half Puerto Rican. I’m at the point where I don’t really care anymore since I’ve never had her love but listening to Curly express so much appreciation and love for his grandmother really got to me. Pupusas really are the only thing that keeps me tethered to part of myself

If you’re grandma still hasn’t taught you, I will teach you virtually! I love pupusas my mom taught me when I was 17 and I have made them for years. They are big in Guatemala also 🇬🇹. I grew up mom Canada and there weren’t as many authentic latin food places growing up so learning how to make it was important to me

OMG I loved this video. I learned to make Pupusas a while ago. From my Saldadorean friend. I’m Mexican. We trade off recipes all the time. These are so good my family loves them! You made me hungry. When you started getting choked up I lost it. I was right there with you. That’s how I feel about my Mama , she’s passed and she’s the one who taught me how cook. It’s true nothing written down no measuring cups . All from sight. I still cook like this to this day. It’s the best! Keeping family traditions alive. I’m so happy to see this. My daughter came home with some of these today. After work she stopped by this new in town tiny store and brought them home. Freaking awesome. They looked simple enough and I recognized most of the ingredients simply by tasting- immediately researched how to make them which ultimately brought me here. I am making them tomorrow even though to get them right you need practice and a little love from your Mother/Grandmother as special ingredients to make them special. I hope mine are half as good. What many people dont understand is that " los abuelitos " After having been around life in the harshest of times can be so supportive of us regarding our personal choices, throught thick and thin they're always there and it's a blessing having them around. Some parents particularly the older, are just as beautiful, maybe those generations really went through things that would make anything else than the love and support for us, irrelevant! My aunt made some years ago and I have never tasted any worse than hers lmao. My mom on the other hand makes the best pupusas, she is Mexican and she learn to make them because my dad is Salvadorian and loves them. I’ve tasted many in El Salvador but none compare to my moms.. I think it’s cause she adds a little Mexican in it lol. Pupusas is always a crowd pleaser for both sides of my family.

My aunt learned how to make them from her bff who is from El Salvador. She then taught my mom. They’re so delicious! A recent Salvadoran joint just opened up across the street and from what I’ve heard the pupusas are delicious. I need to check em out asap

Hola!! I miss pupusas!! My husband is Salvadoranio and I'm from Philippines... We don't have pupusas here. Your country is still in total lockdown.. Can't wait to be there.. I love your country..
