Great and delicious!!! I am Greek and I am sorry to correct you but it's "Makaronia tou fournou" not "Makaronia tou fourno" If you say "makaronia tou fournou" you say "oven's pasta" but if you say "makaronia tou fourno" you say oven pasta. Proud to see such a recipe though

She's right. I'm not all that sold on the mint and the cinnamon and I can't eat pork. But the methode for this dish is out of sight and her presentation is first class for a cooking video, let alone a Tasty video. Well done indeed.
@ozbilege1237 жыл бұрын
I'm from Northern Cyprus. We make the same dish but we use beef mince and it works even better. You can skip the cinnamon but halloumi and mint is an on-point combination
@BigBlack817 жыл бұрын
Halloumi and mint I'm so willing to try. But me and savory cinnamon...I'd rather not. Now saying that, I want to see a recipe where I could legitimately use cinnamon in a savory context. Perhaps something with sorrel. Hmm. I'll have to see what reddit thinks. But yes, I'm down for some of what you're talking about.
@ashleyhundley92457 жыл бұрын
BigBlack81 maybe she used pork because she's half Indian so she probably never grew up with beef.
@m.a.24046 жыл бұрын
Ashley Hundley she uses pork because she is 🇨🇾Cypriot from Cyprus , and pork is traditionally used here, unlike Pastitsio from🇬🇷Greece.. that’s why it’s called Macaronia tou Fournou “ macaroni in the Oven” The cinnamon is an integral part of this dish , it takes a little getting use to in savoury dishes. I would say that her dish is not totally traditional, but her take on it

They sell it at tavernes which are restaurants with traditional food. Now, when she talks about bakeries forget the whole, small shops that just sell bread. Bakeries here could be seen as mini markets. They have small sections with dairy products, drinks, snacks baked goods, desserts and bread. And then there is the section of a kitchen that provides take away food. These kitchens are called ψησταριές (psistaries) and they could be located in bakeries or can work independently.

I was straight up waiting for this to be macaroni and cheese, because I know in French that "fromage" is cheese, so I thought "fourno" might be cheese in another language, and of course, the macaroni/makaronia was obvious.

As a matter of fact, Egypt also enjoys a very similar snack, but we don't use red wine, our bashamel is much better and we used normal beef not pork.

this recipe is good. but you have to taste my grandma's . She changes a few stuff and makes them perfect. You won't find nearly as good as hers anywhere else. I tried them from different restaurants and from friends or relatives and not even near. And the best part she doesn't even have a recipe, probably created it by herself when there was lack of ingredients XD I should learn her recipe and share it with you guys, you won't regret it!
