Used to volunteer weekly at a cat adoption center for 3 years, can confirm the fact black cats take A LOT longer to be adopted (unless they're long haired for some reason) and are usually not available for adoption during the month of October. It's sad there's still such a stigma around black cats, in my experience black cats have been some of the friendliest, cuddliest, and most loving cats I've ever met. THey're so easy to name, look like mini black panthers, and you basically have a living Void in your home that just wants love and care.

I made sure to feed him right before I went to bed and I barely slept 7 hours. I feed him 4 times a day too. I love him all the same. Luckily for him.

I had a black cat named Binx for almost 16 years. I have never met a cat more sweet, loving, and cuddly then he was. He was incredibly brave in the end and a miss him very much. Now, I have another little void. Her name is Persephone. She has some eye issues but lives a full life, the moment I saw her I knew how low her chances were for adoption and I refuse to let that darling girl be unloved due to her fur colour and her eye.

I was just adopted by a stray black cat in my neighborhood also! She’s so sweet and social and was abandoned here 4 years ago. I found out she travels to the neighboring neighborhood too but she’s hunkered down at my house a bit after a while. Good luck with your cat! Be patient and get good treats. I recommend temptations!

Another fun fact; countries that drink most milk per capita have the most lactose intolerant citizens, Northern European countries are the perfect example. When I got my black cat last year, he was very young and was just learning how to be a cat. He was around 3 months old and had been abandoned. When he learned to meow, he sounded like an old smoker and he's a polydactyl. At the time, we thought he had 13 toes between both front paws (he actually has 14 but one was hidden). When I showed videos to my coworkers, one looked me straight in the eyes and told me I didn't have a kitten, I had a demon I still occasionally call him my little demon lmao (his name is Binx for those wondering. I bought the novel version of Hocus Pocus the week before he showed up on my steps and thought it was a sign)

Our dog was killed Halloween 2018. Told my husband no more animals unless life or death. I've experienced a lot of death in my family. 2019 month of Halloween my husband rescued a black kitten that had been 16' up a 40' tree for 5 days. A pit bull and German Shepherd were at the base barking and the kitten had been meowing for days. My husband's boss said he was gonna shoot it later that day. At lunch my husband rescued her and brought her to me. Making his boss mad, he wanted to shoot it! As soon as she came home she acted like she's been here her whole life. She slept with us that night. She's different, it feels like she looks into my soul. She's done nothing but bless this home.

Whenever I hear people say "a BlAcK cAt Is BaD lUcK" I immediately snap, because I have been growing and taking care of a black cat and I think he even gave me good luck and he would love me and make me happy everytime even tho I was just a stranger and he was just a stray cat. I'm sitting out there while she eats with some distance between us so she can at least get used to me. I hate the idea of her being out there on her own with people thinking it's funny to hurt her.

If it gets cold where you are you can cut a hole in a large storage container and put styrofoam on the edges and put straw in as a shelter. The styrofoam helps keep them warm and the straw absorbs moisture so they stay dry :) and it’s a regular container with a lid so in the summer it’s easy to open up and clean out for next years

I have my black rescue cat in my lap as I type. He was severely abused as a kitten and was nearly feral when I received him. he was given a slur as a name by the abusers, but I came to call him Nigel based upon his regal and elegant behaviors. There is something about cats that makes them really special, maybe because of the fact that most cats are introverts like i am and that you need to earn their trust! Me and my mom have 2 male black cats who are 3 & 2 years old, it was just a coincidence that they are both black as we didn't planned for that (though the oldest has some white on him and the other used to have bits of grey fur like his brother, (who my dad adopted) and sisters all had but now have faded away.) It's really fun to call them mini-panthers despite that the panther itself has a different face. Another thing that i really like of black cats is their similarity with one another in their faces, whenever i see other black cats, i see my 2 cats in those other cats it's like they are all one big biological family! It makes me sad really that these color type of cat gets adopted way less often then other cats, as i find them one of the most beautiful black animals out there! Same with how they are treated by certain people.

In Denmark we have a festivity called "Fastelavn" where kids dress up, go from home to home, and "beat the cat out of the barrel" which today is just a barrel filled with candy, but back in the day it was an real cat in the barrel because the superstition of witchcraft.

I've heard of something similar but instead of beating the barrel with a live cat inside, a basket with a live cat inside was set on fire. Imagining the pained frightened noises of the cat going through that haunted my nightmares for several nights. Don't know were that was but the video (probably a buzzfeed video) was so upsetting in what I learned from it. Didn't dislike the video, I think I liked it because it should be more common knowledge. Always bring animal abuse (and all other forms of abuse to all victims) to the light, even those in distant past or other countries today.

This is the most amazing story! My black cat, Stormy, was taken around two weeks beofre Halloween in 2014. I was heartbroken, I had raised him since he was a kitten [he was three years old when taken]. Six months ago, I got Stormy back!!! He was gone 6 years and 5 months! I for one say my boys (14 and .5 years old) have brought me much luck and happiness. While I limit myself to 2 at a time I will continue to adopt black cats whenever possible because they have always been the sweetest companions.

I adopted Thackery Binx (our lovely black kitten) last year in the month of September because the shelter was putting out advertisements about black cats and their positive portrayals in history (and because they don't do adoptions for black cats in Oct. for the mentioned reason in this video). Binx has been the most positive influence in our lives (including our other male cat) since our old cats passed on last year. I cannot imagine anyone hating him.. or thinking he is an omen of ill fortune. He is the kindest, most affectionate cat I've ever had. An absolute delight.

I had a childhood black cat named Pluto. He was the coolest cat. He was quite the hunter, even catching a bat at one point. He was also very cuddly and sweet. I still miss him sometimes. RIP Pluto, may you catch many mice in the underworld.

My partner and I rescued an older black cat on October 24th. She had gotten into a fight and had a bad wound on her neck that we assume made it Impossible for her to meow like normal. She is the sweetest, most cuddliest cat I've ever come into contact with so it breaks my heart hearing about people sacrificing and torturing black cats.

They're the most beautiful shiniest creatures of all! I love them! You HAVE to admit, I bet it feels amazing having a little majestic panther accepting you as a companion/servant..^.^ My little master is a black kitten w/ little white hairs in his ears and has the most cutest gummiest chocolate jellybeans in the planet. Growing up, my family always had black cats, so I'm very fond of them and have been since I can remember. Now that I'm grown up, I have three of my own. Knowing that some people still go out of their way to harm black cats or treat them like useless objects truly breaks my heart. Every black cat I've known has been gentle, quirky, loving, and super cuddly. It's almost like even they know that many people still don't like or trust them and are grateful for the kindness of those willing to give them a chance.

We were lucky enough to be allowed to pick up our baby black panther on October 31st after a rigorous screening process through the adoption agency. I can understand why they wanted to be extra cautious and make sure that we would provide a good home for her. 5 years later and she is still the princess of our little pack.

I have 2 black cats one was a stray, (Midnight) doctor said she is about 8/9 years old she lived out in the woods near my apartment. One day,, all of a sudden I felt her rubbing against my leg while I was on my back porch....she chose me. My other one (Bahgeera, named from the Jaguar from the Jungle Book) is adopted she is almost 2 years old....do I have mid 70s female cat and a now pre-teen cat. They use to not get along but now they meow for one another, I love them both, they are spoiled fur babies.

A feral black kitten adopted me a couple of years ago, after my wife died. She is usually a very affectionate indoor cat, I let her explore my walled yard for a couple of hours a day, with an AR on overwatch. She was good luck for me, saved me from very dark thoughts, and will be bad luck for anything or anyone who tries to hurt her.
