Its very hard to achieve the definition of a meme purposefully, especially by yourself. He made it into a joke, but the definition of meme is an element of a culture or system of behaviour passed from one individual to another by imitation or other non-genetic means. 2. an image, video, piece of text, etc., typically humorous in nature, that is copied and spread rapidly by internet users, often with slight variations. You yourself can't make yourself a meme purposefully, because it involves it being spread and altered. So he was still correct in saying he accidentally became a meme, as I doubt he meant for the format to be spread so much

He may have become known as "Disappointed Black Guy" -- presumably largely due to his name not being known, and his obvious appearance -- but the feelings expressed in that meme are, indeed, universal. We've all been there, getting excited about something that seems VERY positive, only to find out that it was quite the opposite. I always wondered what the original reaction was to, but I will admit that it never occurred to me that it was a reaction to a personal (and totally insane) attack!
