Yeah my teacher was like childhood friends with her. I never met her, gods no, although that would’ve been legendary. She did help us come up with a slogan for a club fundraiser we were doing over the phone so she’s all good in my book. This whole comment section and this video is a huge nostalgia trip for me, not as much for her, but for my teacher who was like one of the best teachers I’ve had and she always raved about how awesome Laina was. She wasn't. She needed medication, so that's why.
@joelavrunin3474 жыл бұрын
@@andyfreeman6865 Taking the right medicine is called "dealing with depression". It's a physiological disorder which often requires medication. If your pancreas doesn't produce insulin, you deal with diabetes by taking supplemental insulin. If your blood pressure is too high, you take medicine to reduce it. And if your brain doesn't produce or uptake enough seratonin, you take an SSRI. Dealing with depression means getting the medical help you need. Kudos to her for using her platform to help to remove the undeserved stigma of mental health treatment.
@andyfreeman68654 жыл бұрын
@@joelavrunin347 Changing your outlook on life is simply all most of us need to do. Depression affects everyone. It's not some mysterious thing we know nothing about. There are so many books on how to fix problems. Depression due losing family or feeling stress of a career is normal. It's not someone should need medicine for unless there is an actual underlying issue. There is a stigma of therapists throwing medicine around like it's a cure to life problems. No. It's not. I support doctors and can't stand the antimedical idiots, however, doctors don't have the answer to every problem. Depression is normal and people need to know that. The first step is to seek guidance and solve the problem. Of course this culture thinks drugs are ok. Just look at all the potheads and how many are addicted to opiods.
@R.F.98474 жыл бұрын
@@andyfreeman6865 Dude, did you miss the part where she said she had been in therapy for NINE MONTHS before her doctor suggested she try medication? How dare you suggest that she (and people like her) was just casually thrown some drugs as an effortless shortcut. That is not how this works.
@andyfreeman68654 жыл бұрын
@@R.F.9847 Therapist wasn't doing his job or she wasn't fixing the problem. Of course everyone thinks happiness is the end all be all. Quite frankly, happiness is a temporary state and should never be looked at as a goal. It, by itself, means nothing. That's what these drugs affect. Disney lied to us. There is no happily ever after in this life. There living a meaningful life and a productive life. Those two usually produce joy and occasionally happiness. Happiness is not a right and we should forget about centering our lives around achieving it. Elon Musk is getting mankind to Mars and that man does not look happy. Stephen Hawking was miserable so why did he even try to live? Because happiness is not important. You don't get better by sitting around in a safe space. You have to take risks, face difficulty, and recognize that happiness isn't going to be readily available. Otherwise smoke pot and sit around. People with actual have mental issues don't get the help they need.

I remember discovering her meme for the first time in summer 2013. Right after that, I got curious who she was and googled her. This led me to her KZbin channel, where I saw not just the Bieber video, but also all the other ones she did so far. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that Laina has become a huge part of my life and one of my main inspirations. Simply one of the most down-to-earth persons I've ever seen on KZbin, and one of the friendliest on social media. Watching her videos always made me happy, because it was not like this mainstream influencer stuff, but more like listening to a friend. With each video, she showed that she was more than just that girl that became a meme. When she announced her retirement from KZbin last year, I was shocked, but at the same time, I thought it was the right thing for Laina to do, especially after finding out about her depression. And it's amazing to see her being well, be it on this video or on social media. I wish her all the best, whatever she's doing.
