I returned off holiday 4 weeks ago, To anyone considering holiday, I have some tips. First the hotel. The Pullman where I stayed was a great hotel, but after going, personally I'd go nearer the centre. Pullnan was a bit out, however Bolt taxis so cheap and quick, wasn't a massive problem. Prior to going, I phoned my insurance company and they sent a certificate with everything on it, Money wise, I was shocked by how little I needed. I took £1000 just as a starter, but had my cards etc. However I still took £300 home. When you are there, change your large notes to small as many places, especially taxis, won't take large notes as not enough change. Don't make mistake as I did not wearing sun cream if you're not used to it, I burned one day. Regarding travel to & from, I went with Emirates and despite tne size of Dubai, so easy to get through, Finally, don't forget to go Buzzin Bar, especially if like me you want a pint,. Enjoy, 🙏

1. Get a copy of your Passport after arrival as it has the entry stamp. Most hotels will give you a copy for free, 2. Notify your bank and credit card company that you are traveling, 3. Make bills you have due are paid before you leave. 4. Have emergency contact numbers readily available in case you become incapacitated.

Good chat Trev, just one point I have to disagree with is the enhancements. In NZ by the time you see your Doctor and chemist each tablet costs you about $10 US, whereas I buy them on the street in Thailand for about $2 US. Never had a problem with recognized brands, but it's actually illegal to bring them back to NZ because they are a prescription-only medicine, so you run the risk of them being confiscated Kamagra is not sold in my country and it works well, so customs normally ignore it, but I tried that Black Ant while in Thailand, it worked, I was a stallion that night, but crook as a dog for 2 days.so I would not recommend it THE EFFORT WAS NOT WORTH THE RETURN

A tip if you are disabled (I have Parkinson's) - tell your airline you need special assistance. I fly Thai and at Heathrow this translated into help checking in and a special lane at security. I could have had a ride to the gate but chose not to. At the gate I announced myself and was given priority boarding. On arrival in Bangkok it translated into "needs wheelchair" and I was given a white knuckle ride through the airport scattering people in my wake! A big plus though was going through a special lane at Immigration that meant I sailed through rather than queued for an hour or so. Going home was similar - there's a special lane at security/passport control which I was wheeled through and was again given priority boarding at the gate. Whilst in Pattaya I have a stick when walking around. The locals might not understand what Parkinson's is but as a whole were very considerate (even Baht Bus drivers!) and walking with a stick indicates that the reason you stagger is medical rather than alcoholic.

As a regular visitor to Pattaya,I always keep a few hundred quids worth of Thai bht for next time because unlike Spain never buy Thai curency in the UK.Avoid the airport exchange booths as well because any TT booth in town will give you a better rate .I disagree about taxis from BKK,because for 130 bht in 2020 I used to get a comfortable air conditioned ride to Pattaya where lots of local motor cycle taxis or bht buses will whisk you to your accomodation 24 hours no worries.I prefer not to waste £25 plus on an airport taxi.Also the Bell buse service will pick you up from BKK pr from your hotel for about £7.by arrangement.

As far as your hotel goes, pickup one of their cards from reception, that way if you stray off of the planned path you can always get a bolt taxi to get you home. Even if the cards not in Thai the driver can always call the hotel for you to get directions. Simple tip, but could be a life saver.

Valuable and sage advice as always Sir! One thing I do is bring some extra strength cold and flu tablets, particularly ones that fight congestion. Not sure of its the air quality or repeatedly going from hot outside to air conditioned inside, but I find I need to take congestion meds the first few days to avoid getting the crud. Also, make sure you have a budget and stick to it by only taking what you are planning on spending that day with you. Leave the ATM and credit cards in the safe. This goes along with keeping it real. Booze and babes have emptied many a man's wallet, and its no fun waking up on day three of a two week vacay and realizing you are broke. Other than that, don't lose your temper, don't get too drunk, and have a great time.

All good comments. Taxi ... I like to use Nams taxi. They have mostly lady drivers. They do not drive as aggressive as the Male drivers I have had. Hotel... I like to make sure hotel has a safe in the room. Lockup that passport and extra cash. Only take the cash you need for that night. Don't forget to ask about joiner fees. Some hotels will charge extra to bring a guest back to your room. Always book for 2 people. Get a balcony room if you smoke. Some are strict on smoking in the rooms. The hotel will ask your guest for ID. Seems like a hassle but it is for your protection If you plan to be out enjoying the nightlife, chances are you will sleep through breakfast. I never book to get the breakfast buffet with the room. True don't plan too much. If traveling with friends tell them we will probably split up and do different things. Sometimes you just go with the flow and want time to spend alone with your new found darling. Keep small coins for the baht bus. The driver will tell you more if you ask "how much?" Had them 10 baht and walk away. Dont get into altercations. Walk away. If they overcharge you. Pay it and don't go there again. There are many other bars and restaurants to go to. I agree to travel light. I only take a carry on. Straight off the plane and into immigration. Keep the immigration card with you. You will need to show it when you depart. Have the name of your hotel ready to put on that immigration card when you arrive. I wear clothes that aren't the best on my flight. That way I can throw them away when changing planes,etc. Laundry is cheap to have done . Lastly enjoy yourself and relax

Don't make plans is such a good point. On my second trip out, I prebooked a trip to Koh Samui to begin after a week in Pattaya. First of all, after a week in Pattaya, I didn't want to leave. Secondly, once I arrived in Samui I didn't really enjoy the couple days I was there because I was looking forward to getting back to Pattaya. Samui was nice, but I felt like it catered to the Disneyland crowd. There were a lot of families, everything was expensive, and it just wasn't my scene. Needless to say, on subsequent trips, I've simply shown up in Pattaya with no plans and went with the flow. It has been a much more relaxing experience. Another point about traveling light. There are laundry services everywhere. Give them your dirty clothes, and they'll have the washed and folded for you the next day for a couple of hundred baht. if you don't want to buy a lot of clothes locally, this is another viable option.

GREAT tips Trevor. CREDIT CARDS : These usually have insurance for purchases against fraud or faulty goods. So can be useful to use them. ATMs : My bank advised me to only use ATM's inside bank branches, and use the NFC thingy rather than the slot for it to recognise your card. Of course, always cover your pin number when inputting it. ATM FEES : Check what your bank charges for overseas withdrawals. Some give them for free if your account is in credit by a certain amount. MONEY BELT : When travelling, I use these to keep credit cards and passport on my person. MEDICATION : I needed medicine in Asia. At the expat clinic I went to, the American doctor there advised that chemist bought drugs made in India are of good/ trustable quality. But avoid those made in China. CONDOMS : The HIV rate for female sex workers in Thailand is approx 1.7%. So about 1 in 50. However, a report stated that " urban settings have shown to yield exceptionally high HIV prevalence among female sex workers, as high as 20% in Bangkok, for example ". 10% of new HIV infections annually are from female sex workers. So the risk is real ... Remember, condoms aren't 100% effective against HIV as the HIV virus is 50 times smaller than the natural pores in latex condoms. So consider getting PrEP that can significantly help against catching HIV. And if the condom breaks, best advice is to immediately both of you to go to the clinic for post-exposure treatment just in case. They will also be able to test the girl to see if she is infected. HOTEL SAFE : Make sure that if you use the hotel safe, that it's actually firmly affixed to something, and that if the back is accessible, that it is securely attached. And if you're having sex with ladyboys, the HIV rates among that group of sex workers is much higher ( about 11%, with younger ladyboys more likely to be infected than older ladyboys ). You can read all about it on the avert webside.

Get mosquito repellents at 7-11, both cream and spray. The brand is Soffell. I take the cream version as a kind of body lotion as my skin gets dry after swimming and exposure to the sun the whole day. I carry the spray with me all the time and even spay on my clothes because mosquitos here are so powerful that they sting through clothes. Great tips. Some to add from my worldly travels. If you do chk a bag (and spot on about for most tropical places..only need carry-on). Allways carry chg of clothes and items you may need incase of lost luggage or the unexpected. Trust me on this! - leave jeans at home. Wear on/with you light jacket/windbreaker or layers if from cold climate. Zip off pants. Wear on plane when cold, zip off legs when arriving! Pack sandles in bag, wear light comfy walking shoes on plane. Buy underwear and socks that are quick dry (pant-shorts also). Can washnin sink and dry in no time. - Bug spray. Very important. While Deet is good w mosqitos, I have found it doesnt do squat w little bitting @ssholes. Deet also will melt plastic..think about that. Just good bug spray like OFF brand always worked. Keep in 2oz carryon bottles. Get a couple sweat bands and soak to extend life. Keep in ziplock. So when you are constantly showering you dont run out! - And also same w micromanaging trip. I had my best time in Pattaya when I only planmed a dive for the week and ran into guys on leave and made new friends. Just go w the flow. Many expats are friendly, and will discover new things. - And yes keep it real! Diff between western women is just time before they take your money and heart lol Seruouslly thou, just be realistic. Hey kat, I usually do travel light because I can only take 18 days at a time. Once (18 days) in the spring and once (18 days) in the autumn. I am no longer working and I plan on being in Thailand for a long while. (hopefully retire there) The reason why I plan on traveling heavy to Thailand is that I am 6'3 weighing approximately 260lbs and I have an inseam of 37 inches long and I wear a size 13 shoe. Depending on the style sometimes 14 size shoe. Now the few times a have been to Bangkok I bought T-shirts, so that was not an issue, however, shoes and long pants are a whole complete different thing with me. Like always, I really appreciate your input, advice and response.

If you’re staying in bkk your first night, you can go to the taxi rank (taxi meters). They do use their meter if you’re going anywhere in bkk. If you’re planning to go to Pattaya, yes they will fleece you. Will usually charge 2000 when you can pre book something for more like 1000/1200.
@jackhayden41382 жыл бұрын
wont they use the meter all the way to pattaya?
@karimfarangfromthejungle60272 жыл бұрын
@@jackhayden4138 they always want to squirm out of using the meter to go to Pattaya. You can pre arrange a taxi for less than the meter charges. If you’re on Facebook, join the Pattaya expat page. On there, you will find loads of reputable taxis that you can pre arrange…

As usual, top notch advice. You are a walking bible on all things Pattaya Trev. Hopefully newbies take notice, specially the "Don't fall in love advice", I think another vlogger advised to make the 1-day rule your own (only see a girl for max of one day) until you learn to navigate the pattaya sea of love 🤣

One thing that is rarely mentioned is that if you are coming to Pattaya you may go through a stage of severe depression when you return to your home country from your holiday. (This is not a joke.) Pattaya is a fantasy land beyond most men’s wildest dreams. (At least it was before the Scamdemic.) When you come back home (especially to the West) and become invisible to women again, it can really mess with your head.

It's good to dream but we know in reality Pattaya is a business model to extract your dollars. Nothing wrong with that but just something to keep in mind so you can keep it real. Outside of Pattaya the Thai women are often very choosy and like a man close to their own age.

First time I went to Pattaya in 2001 I brought shoes trousers and I bought long sleeve shirts before I went, never used them, played golf when it was cloudy and never wore sunscreen (big mistake) didn’t use mosquito repellent (got eaten alive by the mossies) I buy the brand OFF when I’m there and find it great it’s in an orange aerosol. Great tips Trevor pity you hadn’t been on air when I started going. Thanks

I cant stress this enough 19:19 that the most important of all of those that you mentioned, saw guys went hammered with liquor and drugs coz they thought that "special queen" belong to them alone and then cant face reality when they see them with another man, thank you for bringing that up sir Trevor. the other thing i want to bring up is the lady drinks, its normal to get hooked on impressing a certain girl/s in a bar or but that could rake up your bill very high and you end up scratching your head wandering where your money went especially if you will go on a daily basis to those bars... what i do is exchange the money from my country to $ and have it in sperate envelopes that way I can control my spending so early in the morning I will exchange that envelope to bhat to spend for the day.

If you plan on enjoying a lot of different company being a butterfly my top tip would be start at the bars/locations furthest from your hotel. You dont want to nail a girl from across the road on your first night and then spend the rest of your visit walking past her with a new girl on your arm... dont always happen but you dont want a) to be heckled b) the girl to lose face.

All good advice and common sense. Transport is so cheap and safer to get Baht Bus Taxi or even Taxi Bike than hire Motorbike - Not needed in Pattaya. Laundry's are everywhere and cheap so you don't need loads of clothes. Always inform your Bank that your going to Thailand give them dates of your Travel just incase you have to use ATM and remember it's 6 or 7 hours time difference to UK. When you go out only take out money that you can afford to spend for that night - Leave ATM card in Hotel safe - when you are enjoying yourself you always spend more money than you should. Photo copies of everything including your Hotel Booking as on occasions you might turn up your Hotel and there is no booking for you. Some Hotels want 500 - 1000 THB Deposit for damages but they will refund you when you check out. Always show Thai people respect and don't get involved in fights or arguements just walk away. If you want many Ladies just tell the Ladies concerned your a Butterfly be upfront they will understand. ❤️🇹🇭🙏

Trev I understand what your saying about the clothes but that is for your average guy I suggest if u are a guy like me 6'-4 275 or bigger u better bring some extra clothes in your size from home could be very hard to find your sizes there
@andrewmack21612 жыл бұрын
You're right that larger sizes are rare 'on the rack' but there are plenty of tailors that can make up your size quite cheaply if necessary. Also Laundry is cheap so no need to overpack 'extra' clothing.

Great info Trev! But not the exchange at Airport, that is pants down time. Almost all taxis and shuttles at airport except foreign currency (US and quid for sure). If headed to Pattaya, TT is the best I know of. Or if staying in BKK, the banks in the BTS are great rates. And go ahead and make plans only if you want a laugh. My 2nd day ever in Pattaya I planned my day over morning coffee, but on a walk on Soi Honey early afternoon changed the course of the next 48 hours lol. If you are street smart, Pattaya is one incredible memory after another Enjoy!
