I used to bring my two sons on jobs with me. They had enough knowledge of what needed to be done to get by, and I think if I had regularly trained them, they would’ve been way more effective. But I kind of figured that I’d figure it out later. I remember one interview shoot we had, one of my sons mentally checked out and kept tapping the tripod with his foot, resulting in shaky footage. I now understand what it means to have an experienced crew. My kids never deserved that amount of pressure. I apologize to them to this day about that, SMH.

Audio, Audio,Audio. You are more likely to lose clients with bad audio than not perfect visuals. Great video Brandon.

For me, 1. Buying transition packs and not learning how to do them 2. Whip panning every shot trying to be like daniel schiffer 3. Masking everything trying to be like benn tk 4. Speed ramping everything trying to be like jr alli 5. Using a gimbal and autofocus for everything

Mistake #3 is huge. That's a big reason why I started creating content on KZbin myself.

I always felt I had to chase the gear and the latest and greatest. Ended up with a rig that I couldn't use because I hadn't focused on creating and using the tools I had to perfect my craft. Thousands and thousands of dollars later I had to go back and learn things I didn't know on my cheap rig. Thank you for this video and genuienly helping people out, you have a new dedicated subsriber.

My beginner mistake was... taking new piece of gear on set without throughly testing them out... troubleshoot on set is a nightmare...

I'm just starting out but as a hobby only. I'm saying yes to a lot of things and was doing it all myself but now getting help. I do want to have an understanding of how to do everything but realised that getting people in brings in more knowledge.

Hey Brandon, great content and brilliant to see more of what pitfalls not to fall into. Could I just ask, is the link to the free training course still active? I have been researching what courses to try in Northern Ireland but I would love to learn more from your training. Thanks.

Spot on. From my expierence I'd say " Buying good quality reasonably used items instead of cheap new equipment".

The whole rent gear seems like a great idea, but there is a big but. Generally you don't know how or get the best out of gear till you have used it a number of times. This is why i believe you need to use the gear you have. Many many many people say,"know how to use your gear". And it is so true.

I think this video is a perfect place to leave some constructive critiscm. Loved the knowledge dropped here, but for the voiceover, there's a few plosives as you hit "p" sounds. Having the mic a bit more angled so the air coming out of your mouth can't hit it dead on would help I think with this. Everything else is great!

#3 is why I struggle to follow matti and Peter McKinnnon. THey are like teaching you how to be a rich blogger or rich doc maker. I don’t find their film making experience useful. I will always love how they inspired me to try and tell stories.

Almost all "new" work in the cinema space is terrible. If you want to see how to really do it just watch Kubrick.

Never spend money on his training courses, specially on real estate course. He just talk about only which shots we need to learn to shoot real estate but never tells how to do that shot.
@bwashmedia2 жыл бұрын
Which real estate course did you take? I have only received great feedback on the courses so if there is a way to make the courses better please let me know. I can always update the course so let me know what did you find wrong with it?
