Window won't drop! Audi TT door micro switch repair

Hi, just fixed mine. I had irregular window drop on door open on the passenger side. My microswitch was working and still window signal had issues. I opened the electrical box of the locking mechanism and looked very closely and noticed that the pins that go to the harness connector, 3 of the pin's solders had microfractured on the pcb. I then just re-melted the solder on the three pins and tested, no more issues! The fractured solder had caused intermittent contact with the pcb and that would also explain why in the summer it worked almost always and during winter it almost never did. Figured the solder expanded just enough during summer heat to make sufficient contact to signal the window correctly and winter cold retracted the solder enough to stop contact completely. Hope this helps if someone has the same issue even after checking/changing the microswitch!

Thanks a million ! I watched this and another tutorial with my son and we were able to keep the working micro switch but make it a more snug fit in the cam. Drop, courtesy light, door open notification and lights-on alarm now working.

Followed this guide recently and it went like a dream. I found that taking/leaving the door lock bolts out made it easier to get the plastic shield out and in. An unexpected bonus is that it seems to have also cured the parasitic battery drain which has plagued me for over five years. Result!! Huge thanks to you.

Great work! Would’ve made my life a little easier a week ago. Ended up buying a decent used latch assembly after I messed up soldering at the board. I have seen/heard of people placing a strip of metal over the switch to make up for the space lost from the switch button covering and the plastic coming off the latch.

At the 6:30 mark you say ".... got this bit back on" but I have been unable to force that pin back through even when I position it and use a hammer. How do you get it back on?

As an observer, I’d say it would be advantageous if you left the original wires as long as possible. That way the good old TT can take a good six more micro switch changes. On the plastic wearing out, we could potentially 3d print something that can be glued on, and changed when need be. Please keep adding content as you’ve been my go to from day one of owning my Mk1 TT. 🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼😎🍀🍀🍀

Why there is no need to keep cutting them. It’s soldered in so you can just redo the connect for the next switch.

Hello pal, I'm having issues with my driver's side window always dropping whilst driving (like when you open the door) I have replaced the microswitch didn't work then replaced the whole unit and it is still doing it. Video should include a quick preliminary diagnostic that tests whether window “convenience” feature is fully enabled or not, which can also cause just one window not to drop. Went ahead with a switch replacement only to discover it wasn’t the problem… Commonly happens after a battery disconnect; the reset procedure takes 15 seconds and is in the owners manual.

I replaced the battery and afterwards the windows, trunk release, power top, and fuel door release stopped working. Is there an easy cure or is that a big problem? Just bought the TT and love the car. Your videos are awesome!!!

Hi mate, all your videos are great , made me buy a TT , and now I have my first problem, my driver's side window as just dropped the amount it does when you open the door ,then I noticed when I shut the door, it didn't go back up, I tried to close it on the switch but nothing, but would go down on the switch but still wouldn't go up,now it's all the way down, took the door card off and I can hear something near the motor when I use the switch down and a faint click when trying up any ideas cheers Trev

hey thanks for the videos, hey you know I have a problem with my audi tt 01 I did a scan and generated 3 codes P1469 says it is valve 2 for activ open circuit. P1103 sensor1 heater performance too low, and P1297 charger throttle pressure drop. Do you have any videos where I can see how to solve any of these problems?

Hello there.. On my roadster on the passenger side is not working at all. Already took apart but did not replace that switch cause I thought is the motor . But my knowledge on that department is vague. Is the problem the micro switch? Thanks and stay healthy!!

If the window doesn't move at all under normal operation then it's not going to be the microswitch at fault

You probably just need to do a window reset prosedure. You can find the details on the tt forum. It basically opening the door and keeping the window down pressed for a few seconds at the lowest it can go, then keep pressing up on the highest it can go for a further 10 seconds. The window should reset.

Hello great video. I just replaced the switch but wen I plug it in left side it doesnt lower the window. But when I plug the module into the right hand door it does work. I also tried to reset the windows but no succes. Got any ideas?

You could have an issue with the wiring loom, you can do a pin out check from the connector just inside the car as the loom comes out of the door

I was on the Audi TT Europe website and they say these switches will fit. Left right door lock micro switch set for Audi A6 VW Passat B5 Bora Polo Golf Mk4 found on eBay. I will update with the results of my trial when they get here.

If you’ve not connected the cables then you’re gonna have to destroy the door card to get access

The bit at the end you said is a pain in the arse. Put that back in on the door card then put the other bits into the door steel work after installation it's much easier that way.

That way the one half way up door side is tricky to locate, whichever way you go though, lube is the key

Could it be that my microswitch is the culprit of various different problems with my TT? It's started with the windows not dropping properly (both sides, working on and off), then the fuse that controls central locking and windows started blowing every other time I locked the car. Then yesterday, all of a sudden I couldn't unlock the car with neither key directly in the car nor central unlocking. I have been looking at a used door to just run place the whole thingbecsuse my door does have a bit of rust, but it's very expensive. I'm starting a new job next week that I have to drive to, so stressing a bit about it. Anyone got any thoughts?

Without knowing if its a coupe or a roadster, the symptoms you describe point towards a bad CCM- which is a common fault on roadsters, less so on coupes. Of course there is also the possibility that the wiring has deteriorated between the door and the body.

I sent an email to your work (if I found the correct email address), regarding your rates etc :) Must Google ccm, don't know what that is. I have a 225 quattro coupe (sorry to have forgotten that!) and have suspected something with the wiring - as a follow up problem to the windows not going all the way up. I haven't gotten around to fixing them yet, and she worked fine when I got her in December, but these problems started showeing up after washing her a few times (and water getting in via the windows, right above the door handles). I've ordered the microswitches you linked to, and will be fixing the windows (also with the help of your videos 🙏). And will be getting you loooots of lattes! 🤗
