It's like you've given empathy and kindness a sound with this, it's brimming with richness that it made me imagine something awful, which then transitioned to something of pure cosy wonder. The door creaked open loudly, scaring Richard, and he turned on his heel to see what horrors lie beyond the small hallway he had found himself exploring. He raised his shotgun, steeling himself and resting his finger on the trigger. To his relief, it was his teammate, Rebecca Chambers. She put her hands up, pleading for him not to shoot. Richard relaxed his shoulders and let out a short laugh, to dispel the tension he felt. Lowering his shotgun, he gave Rebecca a quick salute, and then motioned for her to stay silent. "There's something huge, just beyond that door," Richard whispered, indicating the door behind him now, where he had been planning to go before the rookie came running in. "I'm going to check it out. Cover me, okay?" Rebecca nodded, readying her gun. The pair of them made their way to the door which was covered in cobwebs and old, rotting wooden planks. Richard looked to Rebecca, who gave him a knowing nod, and he kicked the door in, splinters of wood showering them as the pair forced their way into the attic. Rebecca heard it first--but Richard saw movement, and fired, and there was a loud hiss, and blood sprayed suddenly. "Richard! It's a snake!" Richard barely had time to register what Rebecca was saying as very suddenly, the snake came into view and lunged at him. Both Rebecca and Richard dived out of the way, as the coils of the snake sailed over their heads and the snake hit the wall. Dazed, the snake looked around for it's prey, and Rebecca ran over to Richard, standing behind him, her gun at the ready. Richard used his forearm to stabilize his shotgun, and fired again, another spray of blood showering them. The snake whipped around and rose to it's full height before striking at the pair. Yet again, Rebecca dived out of the way, but Richard was not as lucky, and the snake had him in it's jaws. "Richard, no!!" Rebecca cried, firing at the snake as Richard struggled to get free. Reaching for his combat knife, he stabbed at the snake, until it dropped him. It hissed, blood dropping from the wound on it's face and it slithered away, out of a hole in the attic. Richard hit the ground with a sickening thud, and Rebecca ran over to check on her fallen teammate. "Richard, are you okay?" Rebecca asked, her hands moving over his face, and checking him for any wounds. Even though Richard had gotten free, his wounds looked serious, and she could see that he was beginning to feel the effects of the venom the snake had managed to get him with. Rebecca mustered up her strength and the pair of them moved to a safer spot, just outside of the hallway that lead to the attic. "Oh Richard... I'm so sorry..." Rebecca said, doing her best to make the man more comfortable. She glanced over to the door, however, hearing the knob rattle. With bated breath, Rebecca watched as the door creaked open loudly, once again, and this time, someone else--someone living--stepped through. "Who--who are you?" Rebecca asked, recognizing the combat vest to be the same color as her teammate, Kenneth's. If the colors meant anything, then this would be the point man for the Alpha Team, Red... something. Rebecca couldn't recall. "Chris Redfield, Alpha Team. We're here to rescue you--oh my god, Richard! What happened?!" Rebecca moved aside as Chris made his way to Richard's side. Just hearing his teammate's voice brought a feeble smile to Richard's face. "Chris... get your team out of here... there are monsters running around..." "I know, we got attacked by them too. I can't find Jill, Wesker or Barry. Joseph is..." Chris didn't finish his thought, instead his face was set to a grim expression, and he shook his head. "What did this to you?" "It was a snake," Rebecca explained, "a puff adder, I think, I saw smaller ones in the garden--listen, Chris, when I was trying to catch up to Richard, I saw some serum, but I can't leave him--he needs to be stabilized. Can you get the serum? It should be in this room." As Rebecca spoke, Chris removed the map of the mansion he had managed to find, and Rebecca pointed to the room that she meant. "Okay, I'll be right back. Richard--hang in there." "Be careful," Rebecca said, saluting Chris and then going back to tending to her teammate.

Man richard's death sucks but how about that part in RE 0 where Rebecca casually opts go purse the undeground lab, bids farewell to Enrico, and then notes that "I never saw him again". Ignoring the perhaps silliness of some of RE0's story etc, that moment, like dude he's right there and then he's not and we know he'll be toast by the hand's of Wesker in a day or 2.
