The whole scene was a 'look at all the new unicorn variants of kits you already have. Pre order is live!' I ain't mad at it though. I was actually loving the Scuba Zulus putting in work with the Zaku sniper wrecking...reminded me of the cod sniper drone kill streak that sucked on some maps but was so op on others that people would dashboard. Still kinda confused as to what he was trying to do at the end with stabbing himself with the rifle. Was he trying to cause an explosion to Jihad some more feds or some zaku seppuku?

Either the Zaku I Sniper would've been shot down a lot sooner, or the first Byarlant would still be in the fight. Prior to the Jesta Tristars and Delta Plus showing up, that Zaku I Sniper had undisputed control of the skies over Torrington Base. Though, the Federation were pretty busy on the ground, and their Anti-Air MS were destroyed, so I'm guessing it couldn't be helped.

IRL situation with Messerschmitt Me-109F: seriously underarmed in terms of firepower, but the most agile of all 109 variants and fast for a fighter of its generation. Underperformed with the bulk of the _Jagdwaffe,_ but loved by German _Experten_ for its maneuverability and weapon accuracy.

One of my favorite mobile suits. it’s funny how this thing has kinda become Jerid’s signature mobile suit over things like the Baund Doc. But then again, this is Jerid, where most of his suits are grunt tier. So the Byarlant is the only semi-elite suit they can use for him.

Byarlant is one of those suit designs that I hated when I first started getting into this hobby. It was so weird, and not exactly humanoid. But over time I've actually grown to appreciate for that exact reason. In a universe filled with so many "man made out of boxes" designs, it's nice to see something weird and different pop up.

I remember watching the Zeta episode where Jerid acquired the Byarlant and I was like "What an ugly mobile suit, fitting for an asshole like Jerid, then it started ripping MS apart like tinfoils and give Kamille and Karaba a run for their money. Its one of my favorite suits alongside the Gaplant and The O, they are fast, agile, and they carry limited but powerful weaponry.

That Byarlant Custom from Gundam Unicorn was a one mobile suit wreaking crew, it should have made scrap metal out of the Efret,and the Shamblo.

The Efreet Schneid was piloted by One Year War veteran Fred "Ripper" Reaver, a former Federation ace and member of the Slave Wraith squad who defected to Zeon after the Battle of Jaburo. An ace with almost 15 years of experience with his machine (which, by the way, was heavily customized and upgraded over the years in order to keep up with newer Mobile Suits like the GM III)? Yeah, you basically need a Newtype to be able to handle that.

So if the original lacked fire power, I have a spark of innovation. Maybe a small rack of missles mixed with some powerful beam vulcans that are mounted on little turrets across the body. Make the claws on the hands stronger, and make the feet into claws, so now you can shoot by default and crush and swipe up close. Or again, turn the hands into normal hands, put the cannons into the mid section as a bonus hip mounted weapon, some vulcans in the head and then you put a beam rifle into the normal hands. A much simplier solution. Apparatus is a great idea though.

Be awhere so that the zulu line was alrdy outdated when it rolled out not long after the events of chars counter attack and the byarlent was a machine built for experimentation meaning there were no mass production cost cutting measures in its design and the custom was more thrn likely given an upgrade that put it up the scratch with other ms of the time

In my school vr game goalius has enhanced flight technology and it is a absolute unit sense goalius was pretty heavy at 2500 tons original 90000 tons but went into gms ( special sports facilities that increases mobile suits strength speed and mobility) and fyi Goalius was able to kick ass anytime anywhere anyway and anyhow and get this he once destroyed a zaku 3 squadron and returned back to home in minutes

Byarlant Custom Unit 1 is my favourite desing in all of Gundam. Everyone can wreck things with a state of the art prototype super mobile suit, but it takes a special level of awesomeness to rip through that many suits with whats essentially an old ms upgraded with old parts.

I don't think any other old suit ever had a comback like the Bryalant did in Unicorn. That Custom became beloved. And did Jerid's even get destroyed in battle? I want to say he wasn't able to get to it and launch from the ship. Considering Jerid, while skilled, wasn't a newtype or that amazing an ace pilot, the fact he went through so much of the war in a stock Byarlant and did so well is a testement to it's design. And underarmed is very subjective. Yes it's only got the beam weapons, but at this point in time Beam weapons were king, as only large and expensive units were mounting a really effective defense with I-Fields. Sure if I could refine the design, I'd try to give it proper hands while keeping the beam cannons, but that's just improving flexibility. Finally, the Byalant's real strength was always it's manuverablility. That sucker didn't look it, but it danced, and anything that reduced it's ability to move around is damaging the real advantage of the suit.

Seeing the segment about the Custom Unit 1 makes me want to buy the HGUC kit... There's also 2 iterations of the Unit 2 variant; Bier Quatrieme's unit (The white/blue version shown in the video) and Riddhe's unit. (Zeta Byarlant colours)

Whoa the Byarlant Custom Unit 2 looks incredible! I've never seen it before. The built in canons attached to the boosters, the arm mounted beam rifles that double as long beam sabers, small shields covering those, a flight pack for long range flight. And it has hands so its (in universe) critics can shut up. What a damn elegant design. Apparently Riddhe was supposed to have used it once in the Unicorn Manga, but they took it out of the OVA. What a waste. I would have loved to have seen this thing animated. I've always loved the Byarlant line in general. Their concept is so elegant and simple, and I love the cheeky little in canon nod to the fallacy of the idea that all mobile suits have to adhere to this perfectly humanoid shape with the Hazel Ikaros that inspired making the Byarlant aerodynamic. It just has such a neat and unique shape, and I also love the built in weapons. I could almost see it as another bit of lampshading that people in the Universal Century would consider it "undergunned" simply because it has built in weapons rather than traditional manipulators, even though the benefits of having a built in all-round weapon like its M Particle Gun are substantial in their own right. The Custom Unit 1's performance is always one of the things even casual watchers of Unicorn often remember.

I don't recall too much of the byarlant in zeta, there's so many machines. In unicorn tho, this thing just emerging and going one man army. Wrecking Zeon suits with a mix of firepower, close range brutality and a double helping of speed.

Great video! I really like how far back you went with the flight type development. And any AoZ goodies are a welcome addition, too. Kind of makes me wish an Icarus upgrade kit for the HGUC Hazel kits was released, but it seems unlikely.
