Took one for a test drive and ordered one on the spot, was very impressed with the whole package, the build quality and ride was very impressive. Great car for the transition from an ICE vehicle to an EV, it all just felt very similar and a perfect fit for me.

Hi Chris, Im based in Bangkok Thailand and have owned my BYD Seal Performance since December last year, and love driving the Seal everyday, it is one of the best EV's on the road. You should do a conference call with BYD owners to get there input, Im happy to participate.

The exterior is designed by Audi's head designer Wolfgang Egger. And the interior by one of the guys at Mercedes. It's a 5 star EURO Ncap. Some Tesla models use BYD's blade battery or CATL. Bare bones JDM cars are in big trouble.

We also have an Atto 3 - had it for ~4months. I was all set to purchase a Seal. Probably the Performance. I drove both the Premium and Performance. Unfortunately, I had to cancel as I found the clearance to the road a bit low for my steep(ish) driveway into my carport. I was guaranteed to scrape the front edge of the bumper. I was also worried about damage/scraping to the bumper from other sources as well. I've on order a Model 3 LR AWD which gives me about 4 centimetres extra clearance. I'm mindful that the Tesla is also lower compared to say an Atto 3 SUV so I need to be vigilant to its ground clearance as well. Whilst I'm sure I would have been happy with the Seal - I'm really looking forward to the Tesla, and the matrix headlights look very useful. The price of the Seal - Premium or Performance is VERY competitive compared to the Tesla RWD/AWD variants. But I'll soon get over the ~4k difference. 😀 Looking forward to never (I hope) having to visit a petrol station again.

Hi Paul, I cancelled my Seal order for the same reasons as you. Will hold out for the Sealion , hopefully the end of this year.
@Gene-je2zq11 ай бұрын
The Seal is not as low as the specs would have you think. The lowest point is quite close to the wheels so you are unlikely to scrape compared to a Tesla M3. And it's just a plastic air deflector.
@Paul-ow9dd11 ай бұрын
@@Carnormous Yes, the Sealion looks like a good option. I decided to stay with a sedan as we have the Atto 3 SUV. The Polestar was a little out of my budget. Truth is the Tesla was a bit as well. LOL!
@Paul-ow9dd11 ай бұрын
@e2zq Sorry Gene, it is low on my downwards sloping driveway. I wasn't able to find any meaningful specs on height from the bumper to ground. I had to measurer it myself. It's lower than my 2015 VW Polo, and that is quite low. As I said 2 centimetres as measured with a measuring tape. At the back of the bumper (near the wheels) is further off the ground on a downwards sloping driveway. As obviously it would be. The front of the bumper WILL scrape. Not the back part. The deflector (I think it's black plastic IIRC) is part of the bumper and is not designed to be removed. Removing it will change dynamics, stability and efficiency. The demo RWD I drove had under 600 kilometres on it, and there was already scraping damage to the bottom of the front of the bumper. As I pointed out to the salesperson and showed him - "there is my problem". If the Seal was a little higher, I'd be driving my own well and truly by now. Having paid the 1k deposit I was all set for purchase. I'm sure most owners will be happy with the Seal. But prospective owners need to be aware of possible clearance issues when driving this vehicle, and then make their purchase knowing this could be a problem on some driveways and gutters as well as those annoyingly variable height parking space concrete stops, which catch many drivers - even in some higher clearance vehicles.

Thanks for the review. I’m reviewing the BYD Seal Premium in sunny Singapore. Would be great to hear comments and inputs from owners and how this compare against the likes of the Tesla Model 3 (highland), Ioniq 5 or 6 or equivalent options in the market?

Totally agree on the comments about negativity and nitpicking in the owner forums and EV social media. So many entitled armchair experts 🙄unfortunately finding useful dispassionate information within these forums can be very difficult and time consuming. This is not however confined to EVs I’ve found the same dispiriting issue in other owners forums for motorcycles and classic cars as well frustrating but the nature of the beast I guess.
