Fun fact: for those who laugh at BYD standing for Build Your Dreams, let me tell you a story. When BYD was founded in 1995, it’s headquarter was located at YaDi (雅迪)Road, Shenzhen city, China, so they named their company YaDi. However, the two words were already taken by other companies, so they added a Bi (比)in front, and that's how BYD came about. As a result, Build Your Dreams was just an English motivational slogan they came up with later.

I have a Seal and it’s the best car I’ve ever had (my previous cars included a Mercedes S class a couple of Volvos several Japanese and Australian cars and my wife has a wonderful Citroen C5). There are a number of things you missed on your video. Firstly, at least in Australia, the car has heated/ ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. The seats are also leather on the top two, of the three models we have here. The climate control can be changed via voice control as well as three finger swiping on the screen. There is also a heads up display which does an excellent job. BYD has already sent three updates after consumer feedback since the car was released here in December 23. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a sedan. They also have a number of SUVs that are worth looking at.

I watched a video post in a popular youtube channel for BYD: A famous columnist abroad visited BYD last year, at the end of the visit, he asked a question to byd marketing people, "I knew byd have had 20 years of experiences in car manufacturing history, why do you enter international market so late?". The marketing people told him very plitely that she didn't knew the answer, but she would forward the question to byd technical people and they would answer his question. A week late, the columnist received a email sent from BYD's technical chef, told him that during byd's first 10+ years, they were leaening how to build a car so their design and quality were not good enough to compete. Late byd hired world's 1st class designers, and invested lots of new technologies so their manufacturing capabilities promoted a lot. In 2021 BYD thought they could now compete with all the world brands in both EVs or hybrid. The columnist late said that he assumed the same factors when he asked the question to byd, but he was very impressed that byd's tech leader gave him the answer so frankly. That's the great attitude of an excellent company. Go BYD!

For current buyers of new cars resale value is a problem, you are right. But what is important (and there is not enough data yet) is how happy the people that buy those cars used and for cheap end up getting. If they are good and cheap, word of mouth will eventually make more people want to buy them used and that will raise the resale value. Not tomorrow, and that is something people buying one now should take into account. And probably a reason why BYD's new cars have to be cheaper.
@jding15739 күн бұрын
@@pauloavelar123 BYD invest much more than Tesla in R&D every year and think of the efficiency of Chinese engineers and cost, the actually development value may be double than Tesla. Also BYD has the best supplier chain in China and most of the key parts are made in house BYD, the results is their price are so competitive. BYD also has high end of vehicle: Yangwang U8 SUV ($150K) and U9 $240K racing cars, BYD Denza are developed with Mercedes and now BYD buyout all the shares and rights from Mercedes. Toyota already adopt BYD's hybrid technology in their new cars. No one will doubt BYD will be the top 3 vehicle manufacturer in the world in 5 years, may be 3 years. That's why our government want to ban BYD with the slogan of "national security". The reason reason is US cars can not compete with China now and in the future.

Actually, in Australia, the indicator stalk is on the right-hand side because, like in England, we drive on the left side of the road. In Europe and America, it is mounted on the left side. Because they sit on the left side of the car. Reason.....Try changing gears and indicating at the same time when the indicator is in the middle of the car. So for England, the right side for indicator stalk is actually the correct side. It's only all the European imports with the easy mod of just moving the steering wheel to the right side without adjusting indicator stalk is what makes you think it is correct.....But it is wrong! What an excellent and informative video. I live in China and do get a little sick of everyone bashing “Made in China” when a lot of products, like this car, are actually world class. We have been happily driving our Honda CRV here for the past eight years but are now actively considering a change. Going around the sale rooms it is very easy to note a huge difference since going to Honda so many years ago. You go there today and there are only three or four tired-looking upgrades of the same cars. The size of the sales area has been decimated as has the sales force which seems depressed and as uninviting as their cars. On the other hand visit BYD or any of the other sale centres and their is a sense of excitement and pride, an eagerness to show their products which is in marked contrast to not just Honda but also Toyota and Ford dealerships. We are pretty much settled on buying a Tank 400 hybrid in the next few weeks. Fantastic car to go with our lifestyle, wonderful sales team who were eager and knowledgeable about an exciting and well-built product at a great price.

However, I use ABRP as an app on Apple Carplay. Works perfectly and integrates non Tesla chargers as well. @@yslee1401 Bullsh**t. Do some research - safer than lithium-ion batteries. Or read the following. There have been just six EV battery fires in Australia out of more than 180,000 EVs on the road, according to EV FireSafe. In its submission to a federal government enquiry on electric and hybrid vehicle battery fire risk, it noted that none of these were spontaneous, related to charging, or caused explosions. Three incidents where EV batteries caught fire were caused by an external fire (unrelated to the vehicle), one was related to an arson incident, one by a road collision and one by road debris. Fire and Rescue NSW said in a report issued in March 2024 that just three of the 456 lithium-ion battery fires it attended in 2022-2023 involved electric vehicles. One involved an MG from which the battery had been removed and not disposed of correctly, one involved a Tesla Model 3 hitting road debris on a highway and one involved a battery from an Audi RS e-Tron that had been removed in a workshop. The report also listed four hybrid battery fire incidents but did not outline the causes. The three top culprits were instead e-mobility devices like e-bikes and e-scooters (90), battery chargers (46), and energy storage batteries (37).

I asked my Chinese friends, how they control the AC, since most Chinese cars nowadays don't feature separate control for AC. It is pretty annoying and quite gimmicky to have everything controlled by screen that doesn't always show it. In BYD Seal, the AC blower direction are even screen-controlled. Their reply is simple: "Just talk to the car" I realised how quick and responsive the voice system is, even in cheap low cost oriented Wuling/Baojun ones. Sad to say, we, global consumers are used to clunky slow voice command systems like the ones I experienced in Mazda and Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class featured in back in 2003, but 20 years later, the W213 still couldnt process nor understand simple commands correctly.

My only two real complaints are the missing control knobs, I had the displeasure of driving a car which hid them behind and under the screen in a recess making it impossible to reach without looking, and it was hell. Adjusting A/C, volume or anything else while on the street forces you to look at the screen. It just should not be done. give each A/C its own knob which adjusts temp and on/off and that would be enough. The auto adjustment of fan speed is fine in 99% of cases so having that on screen is not an issue. Volume control can be on the wheel, but it shoudl be a dedicated button and not a dual action one where you need to go through menues to set it to the action you want to do right in that moment. We spend decades researching and warning of the dangers of using your phone while driving and now we have to do that for some basic controls, which DO NEED to be adjusted while driving. But a new EU law pretty much madated that already and BYD seems to already have ideas on how to be in line with that law as well as having the screen remain unchanged in size and function. The second one is the sunroof. That one is really not needed in what is essentially a high midrange car, make that an option or different model and it would be fine.

In fact, BYD's first hybrid electric vehicle, the F3DM, was produced in 2008, its first pure electric vehicle in 2011, and Tesla's first model s in 2012.

In Australia, European and American cars have the indicator on the left of the driver and all the Asian cars have them on the right.

Yes, this indicator stalk position feels natural in Australia. Seal is definitely a good alternative to Tesla Model 3. So far the feedback from Seal owners here have been very positive.

I had a Dodge 2500 truck with Cummins diesel and with fuel monitor set at "real Time" was like watching kW indicator on BYD. Interesting observation, on a 500 mile trip with weather changing from dry sunny to everything through to dry snow fuel consumption at a steady 70 MPH ranged from 18 to 24 MPG! Drove full distance in 14 hours with a half hour pit stop midway

Chineese ev cars are better value for money than us ones. Tesla might be an exception. But not always. FSD gives it the edge...

The big thing for me is structurally how well will it last. I would like to see a mechanic and an automotive engineer look over the car and give their thoughts on how well it looks in the chassis and suspension setup and build quality. I'd also love a car like this to be a real long termer with those same people looking over the car as it ages and wears, to see how it stands up. Whats the spare parts supply like? How repairable is it or is this a disposable car the minute something goes wrong with it? Making a car look nice when its new is one thing, but will it still be ok at 100000 miles?

They are better than many European brands even the expensive ones. It’s a marketing slogan that is positive. People in the west always say hold on to your dream , chase your dream, dare to dream. It’s good. I sense there is a lot of envy behind many comments here. So much for faire play. ESP with all the subsidies given to Euro care brands.

@@npolearyI think most people from countries that drive on the left would have been surprised to hear you say the indicators were wrong. Never used to be that way, but you’re probably too young to remember that. I suppose it changed when Britain was in the EC to standardise with cars made on the Continent.

You can do a pile of stuff with the voice assistant. It can open windows for example, something other manufacturers don't do. I believe you have to persist with it. Also configuration wise, it was BMW who started the whole optional thing back in the 1980s. Trim level pre BMW option determined the equipment your car had. Generally, the only options used to be colour and a radio.

This could be big. Who remembers that LG originally only manufactured and supplied components for audio visual products (and not a producer of the retail goods) Look where they have come in a couple of decades. Like you mentioned, most shortcomings can be fixed by OTA upgrades (not the steering wheel buttons unfortunately) I think i get a feeling of déjà vu with this.
