Hello again Ilona. Well it’s over a year since you preserved the leaves and I’m curious to learn whether they are still supple and leathery?

Hi Jeannie, I have just checked on the leaves for you, and to my surprise they are still quite leathery. I would say they are delicate, but I think they have held up pretty well. I hope this helps 😊

Hello Angeles! Thank you so much 😊 I know I haven't been posting videos as often as I used to - Autumn is a little bit difficult for me with the seasonal changes in weather. Hopefully my normal video schedule will resume soon (when I am up to it 🍁🍂)

Hi, Now I was just going to feed the KZbin controlling Mighty Algorithm here, but I think I want to say that This Is Just Being Ridiculous. Not the content with the leaves of course, but I being the first person to leave a comment. Come On People! Ilona Needs More Comments!!! As for the leaves. Stellar work with the the scientific approach. I truly enjoyed the video. I'm sorry they aren't my cup of tea. The colors in the world I abhor are yellow, orange and brown. I'm sorry. I'm very much a spring and early summer person, minus the allergies (even to the extent that my skin tone is spring). I'm looking forward to your foraging come spring and summer, unless you too have to deal with allergies of cours. That excuses everything. Thank you for the video. Yours, Ann

Hi Ann, I always love reading your comments! ❤️ I am glad you enjoyed my scientific approach. I quite enjoy yellows, browns and oranges - but I think you have a good idea about summer foraging - the weather will be much nicer! I think this method would work really well for oak leaves 🌞

Brown is good, brown is great. You shall surrender to brown, as of this date. Now that its FINALLY autumn here, I can try this method, and give it a go! And I can personally attest to how amazing that colour book is....pressing leaves, learning stuff and other interesting things, teaching naughty husbands a lesson, who complain about "too much fabric and too many books..." the uses are endless!

Some experimental ideas for you -> What would happen if you dried the leaves on your hat block and then stiffened them on the hat block? Would they retain the shape? I’ve never done anything like this but you definitely had me interested. The way I was thinking would be to put fabric on the hat block then the leaves then fabric then plastic wrapped tightly over all.

To anyone wanting to try this: Make sure it is legal where you are to pick branches and leaves like this or only pick from already fallen ones (alternatively from trees you own). Happy foraging! :D

Great success, never mind the food colouring. It's good to know the not so successful methods, so thanks again, Ilona

you can always put it under a book. i put the leaves under my yearbook. those things are so heavy lol. maybe even put it between two. i only recently was interested in this. i did hear about using food dye but also heard preserving some colors are harder than others. it really sucks because the color when u see it is so gorgeous. u managed to have a lottt of pretty yellow ones. this video taught me a lot about leaf preservation tho! the poison ivy costume idea was genius and i have the perfect wig for that! definitely going to look more into that.

Well that's far more complicated than ironing them between waxed paper! Really love this idea, especially with the gloss finish.

Just on a sidenote, because I see this duplicated quite often: Leaves, trees, plants in general soak up water in a passive way. There is evaporation in the leaves and the resulting negative pressure leads to water being soaked up from the bottom through capillary forces. If a leaf is submerged in liquid there is no evaporation, therefore no liquid is soaked up through the stems. The liquid in this case is only slowly diffusing though the cell walls, it's not comparable to flowers in a vase. Therefore no need to cut the stems.

Did you use synthetic or vegetable glycerin? Really well done video and comparison.

I'm guessing it was vegetable - I didn't even know you can get synthetic.

Ilona, I LOVE this! How long do the preserved leaves last for?
@ByIlonaMillinery
@ByIlonaMillinery Жыл бұрын
Hello Jeannie! Thank you so much! 😊 I have heard that they are supposed to last for a very long time - as it is a "preservation" process. I have held onto all the leaves from this video and stashed them away in a cupboard. Around the same time next year I will check on them and give an update as to if they have lasted well. 🍁🍂
