Ren explained that he had an autoimmune disorder when he was a child. It damaged the myelin sheath on his neurons. That led to cross-talk in his brain. He heard a sinister, critical OTHER tearing him down. When he was 9 years old, he screamed at it to shut up. And it did. When he was 15, he had his first visual hallucination. When he got off a bus, a shabby homeless-looking man approached him, and called him by name. Some time around then, he contracted Lyme disease. The doctors said his illness was all in his head, so they put him on a regimen of antipsychotic drugs. His body wasted away as the pills made him even more ill. He spent a year bedridden, going out of his mind. Now, he has a proper diagnosis and treatment, and Ren is on the road to recovery. I suspect that part of his genius is in trying to make up for lost time.

here are my thoughts --- brief Ren bio --- at 17 he contracted Lyme disease & an autoimmune deficiency, was MISdiagnosed as "mentally ill", prescribed psychotropic meds that fed his psychoses and wrecked his physical health........Ren is still in treatment ( maybe for the rest of his life ) - he has a GoFundMe account to help pay staggering medical bills - the Pig is a butcher, I think Rens' opinion of many doctors and therapists - the discordant vocals & guitar symbolize his internal chaos, as do the blinking lights - "Truth in a blender, Deceitful Pretender".........

I came back here to comment after watching your current Ren collection of videos. I'm emphasizing again, lol, that you need to treat your super great guests, who've done a great job of reviewing, the treat of LOSING IT. It's especially perfect after hearing several different songs from Ren. It cannot, will not, and shall not get old. I'm certifying since I'm using it as medication for times a day. Does not get old somehow.

This is the best discussion I've heard about this song. Too often just think ren is "schitzo". No. This is the human condition.
@Qalibrated
@Qalibrated Жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right. And on top of that, most people are completely misinformed when it comes to schizophrenia. I don't really blame them for that, as the misinformation has spread for decades in movies, music and media. When most people say "schizo", they usually mean multiple personality disorder, which is not the same thing. As a schizo, i can't keep count of how many people have asked me "How many personalities do you have?" or "What is your other personalities like?". One of the many things i love about Ren, is that he is bringing attention and awareness to mental health, as there is still so much taboo and misinformation attached to it. Sorry for the ranting, just wanted to add on to your comment. Been sighing a lot the last couple months with all the reactors instantly going "schizo" at the beginning of the song.

It’s not often you warm to each member of a group, but the three of you talk incisively and with real interest in what you are experiencing (for Ren’s videos are an experience) and with respect for one another’s views. I watched your reaction to The Big Push’s Brighton busking gig. (I wish they were there when I was growing up in the town!) and subscribed. Thanks for your insight. I would love to see your reaction to “The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full)” ❤

Ren is therapy for so many from one song he helps so many people open up in ways therapists struggle to do in person. First time i watched Hi Ren i had a panic attack but thought i needed to watch it again so i watched someone reacting to it that was the best thing i could do i have watched many times since. One thing i think about this song is it needs to be seen by every one even in schools after a certain age, because how many children kill themselves because of the negativity towards them from nasty comments and bullying to them believing what is said. I went through hell, bullied all through school to the point i attempted suicide twice, and to many issues in my life since then I am a recovering alcoholic 11 years clean I suffer PTSD and other health issues so the majority of bad days over good is high, if this bullying had been dealt with i may have had a reasonable life not the existence i have to deal with now

I loved this reaction. Thank you. I know that some think that Ren's dark side represents the ego. However, I have good reasons to disagree with that view. Both Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell, two guys we should not ignore, say that what you guys call the ego is really the shadow - an aspect of the personal unconscious in which everything we disown in ourselves becomes focused. It is the shadow that is created when the ego obscures the light of the soul. As Joseph Campbell says, the hero in all our myths and legends always represents the ego - the personal aspect of our consciousness. I get why people call this dark sided the ego. The truth is that the ego only becomes a problem when we allow it to become bloated with self-importance. It's true purpose is to grow, develop personal boundaries and then become transparent, allowing the light of the soul to shine. That is my view for what it is worth.

The reason so many people are connecting to this song is because Ren is sincere and speaking from his own personal experiences. We all have the negative and positive voice in our head because we are all human. I think the one that will prevail is the one that we feed the most. We have to be careful to what we watch, what we listen to, who we hang out with...garbage in, garbage out. We need people that will help build us up and that we will also in turn build up. We need people we can laugh and cry with. Great reaction! Sending love from Chicago and subbing

your reference to ego is absolutely spot on. I don't need to tell you that I know, but many don't know that ego is an essential part of us, and isn't a bad 'trait' or about being boastful or big headed. Part of ego makes us seek justification or validation. It's why we fixate on the negative comments for example, rather than reflecting on the good, because we try to justify ourselves against what the negative comment claims we are. Enjoyed this very fresh and spirited reaction, people. Thank you 💕

Yeah, true. But he doesn’t back up after pausing. He missed the significance of “You’ve gotta k*ll you if you wanna k*ll me!” line bevause He paused and talked for a while and forgot the lead up to it that makes it very poignant. Reactors that don’t back it up from a pause while watching music or comedians are aggravating. So annoying when they miss something because they can’t be bothered to back it up 3-5 seconds.

Fantastic reaction, and great interpretations and messaging about the mercurial mind and the trickster ego. Instant sub! I'm a visual artist (and musician) who has also dealt with mental illness issues, so I found in Ren and his community of subscribers great solace and inspiration. I've been in the Ren/Big Push rabbit hole for the past three months, watching many reactors get blown away by his art, and I have to say that your reaction is one of my favorites!🤠

haha, means it the same here in the U.S. and that was my first thought too when Dwight told me the name he chose for his company. But once I went through his seminar and had him on my podcast, the name fit his message and goals. It also allows him to make little jokes and remarks about it throughout his presentation, so it works out in the end. But make no mistake, we use BYOB for "Bring your own beer" or "Bring your own bottle" too, haha.

Ren has stated that it's not a single take, it's 100+ takes but all live takes. Also, at the start there is a big lamp on the left side (as you look) and a small lamp on the right side, maybe this is how the song ends, so Good Ren on the left and Evil Ren on the Right. As well his socks are where he is now, his left sock is lower than is right sock? (I am over analysing this!?) On his left ear (as you look at the vid) is a cross, I can't make out what was on his other ear. My take from each time "Good Ren" speaks to "Evil Ren" is at the start he is younger and each conversation he is older to the point at the end where he has the strength and mental health to stand up. Just my thoughts, have a wonderful day everyone... welcome to the RENaissance

I think that what Ren is trying to say is that ego doesn't hold you back. It is actually trying to make you grow, but because the "good" side is usually easily intimidated, it gets held back. I think both sides have value as long as you use them as advisors and can be crippling if you let them lead. So, please be open for opinions, but follow you on path

One of the Gnostic scriptures entitled 'Pistis Sophia' (Faith in Wisdom) describes the "parts" of the human entity as body, soul, and the counterfeiting spirit (counter spirit) It is as follows: "And when the number of months of the birth of the babe is completed, the babe is born. Small in it is the compound of the power, and small in it is the soul; and small in it is the counterfeiting spirit. The destiny on the contrary is large, as it is not mingled into the body for their economy, but followeth the soul and the body and the counterfeiting spirit, until the time when the soul shall come forth out of the body, on account of the type of death by which it shall slay it [the body] according to the death appointed for it by the rulers of the great Fate." The spirit is not mentioned, but might be considered part of the soul (depending on the words in the original). So I suppose the spirit and the 'counter-spirit' has an eternal presence. At birth both are weak and depending on Fate they gain power, balance, or imbalance. So Good and Evil are always present in our mortal existence. Like in the song 'Hi Ren'.
