I was at Devonshire Downs for some concert but I think I saw Canned Heat. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

What a great show Newport 69 was. The Hells Angels tore down the fence, so I got in for free. The weekend ended with rioting outside the grounds, I wish i had a list of everyone who performed, I've forgotten so much. Ike & Tina, Don Ellis, Rascals, Hendrix, Buddy Miles, Janis, WOW

Janis wasn't there. Love, Three Dog Night, Spirit, The Flock, Mother Earth (with Tracy Nelson--maybe you mis-remembered her as Janis), Jethro Tull, Sweetwater, Steppenwolf, The Rascals, Eric Burden and War, Albert Collins, Albert King, Chambers Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Buffy St. Marie, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Johnny Winter, and Jimi Hendrix (on Friday night with his group and on Sunday jamming for 2 hours with members of Eric Burden's group, Mother Earth and others). I wish I had remained clear-headed so I could remember some of the individual highlights better.

@@redosoable I was there ... yes Janis was there she didn't perform but she was on stage with Hendrix.

@@redosoable Great upload. The Byrds played early Sunday. And yes, as Patty says ... Janis (hanging out) was there when Hendrix was on and ... Eric Burdon was on a tower dancing while Hendrix played. What a day of music and I think it was like ... only $8 if I recall?

Wonderful footage. Thanks for sharing. I've seen footage of Hendrix and Poco from this festival. With so many great bands on the bill, I was wondering what other footage or audio exists for the other performers. Do you know?

There may be some torrent links out there if you do a search of the concert, but don't know if those links still work. I've read that the video (done for tv news?) was mostly pretty poor quality. Don't know if you've seen my other uploads of the Grass Roots: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIeYhqiHatihipo and also Johnny Winter: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXetqGyYqdJ3b8k. Those and the Poco clip were all I've been able to get a hold of. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've seen tour other uploads from this event. I have the promotional poster and with all the great performers that day, I would love to learn if more footage exists. The search continues.

On this day in 1968 {May 11th} the Byrds performed the Bob Dylan song "You Ain't Going Nowhere" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'... And on that very same day it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #74 and spent 5 weeks on the Top 100... Sadly, two members of the band have left us; Gene Clark died on May 24th, 1991 at the age of 46 and Michael Clarke on December 19th, 1993 at age 47... R.I.P. Mr. Clark, Mr. Clarke, and Dick Clark {1929 - 2012}...

is that John Ford or Skip Battin?
@60s70sVintageRock10 жыл бұрын
John York was bassist until Sept., '69. Skip toured with the band starting in '70. So I guess this must be York in the vid...?

Yep, that's John York. Not a lot of footage of him with the band, since he wasn't in it that long. Check out the Playboy After Dark gig to see him more clearly.

Love seeing John York. That was my favorite post original Byrds lineup. Though Gene Parsons constant barrage of overplaying drum fills really never settles into a pocket and makes me nervous and hyper when I listen to these performances. “Don’t bogart that joint my friend.”
After the musical heights they were consistently reaching in studio, this is the start, sight and sound of a migration too long and uneventful to hold even the most committed byrdwatcher's attention. Raucous year though with Woodstock and Altamont.

I guess California was the place to be! There was so much happening there during the mid to late 60's!
