We continue our march towards the 2024 NFL Draft in Episode 53 of Bengals On The Brain with Joe Goodberry, presented by First Star Logistics, with a three-game look at Texas junior defensive lineman Byron Murphy II.
As a sophomore, Murphy was among the top interior defensive linemen in the Power Five. How did his junior season go? We look at games against Kansas, Alabama, and Iowa State and break down the good and bad of Murphy for a Texas Longhorns squad that made the College Football Playoffs, where they ended their season with a 37-31 loss to National runner-up Washington.
We also take care of some business with the Cincinnati Bengals, as offensive coordinator Brian Callahan has now been named the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, and quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher was named by Bengals head coach Zac Taylor as the Bengals new offensive coordinator.

Joe, U DA MAN. I always like your analysis. Cause it is good. Good job again AND on a player who we have realistic chance to draft @18.

Totally agree Joe is the man and I prefer hearing him talk about the bengals more than James over at Cincinnati Bengals Talk. Joe is so informative and the way he breaks down plays he could probably be a coach lol

Do a video on DT Kris Jenkins of Michigan. And Jenkins dad was an All Pro defensive lineman for the Panthers.

I like Murphy but LOVE Newton. Newton was dominant. If Newtons not there when we pick I hope we get an OT anf get Murphy or Sweat in round 2 and then get a TE in round 3 or 4

If Newton falls he’s my favorite realistic pick at 18..still sign Reader to a one year prove it and our d line is solid. One major piece we have been missing is interior pass rush and we haven’t filled that role since we let Larry O go. BJ Hill/DJ Reader/Newton + depth… w Trey/Hubbard/Murphy + a pick on the outside and we should be solid..

Murphy would be good as a 2nd round pick. If Newton is there In round 1 we need to get him! If not then we need to get an offensive tackle in round one and a DT in round 2.

I’m not has high on him as others. He was quite ineffective in the tape I watched against Oklahoma. Often noticed him being the last guy to move off the snap as well. He’s not a great finisher right now either. What exactly is his role in the next level?

Why did they have Murphy play nose tackle?? Devondre Sweat is 6’4’’ 362!!! Was he injured in these games or something?

I would not take a Larry Ogunjobi type of player in the 1st round. Ogunjobi was a 3rd round pick (65th overall pick in 2017). Besides, it looks to me like the Bengals are going to have to take an offensive tackle in the 1st round, as I doubt they re-sign Jonah Williams, and the top offensive tackles will be gone by the time the Bengals draft again (in the 2nd round).

He does some good things but he's reckless and loss of balance even when he wins at the line. I wouldn't use 18th overall pick on him.

Why the hell do they have Murphy playing nose tackle?? That makes 0 sense when you have a true nose tackle in Sweat.
