The need for a right tackle is a major one for the Cincinnati Bengals this off-season. Will they answer the need in the 2024 NFL Draft or look for a stopgap in free agency?
If they look to fill the need in the draft, one player they could look at is Georgia junior Amarius Mims, a 6-foot-7, 340-pound right tackle who has a Hulk-esque frame with many questions surrounding him leading up to the 2024 NFL Combine next week.
Joe Goodberry Bengals On The Brain, presented by First Star Logistics, dives into the limited film on the far-from-perfect prospect with only eight career starts, far fewer than most NFL teams would like to see from a player many consider a mid to late first-round pick.

He is just so athletic I can’t see the bengals passing on him. I mean after the combine he may not even be there at 18. This dude does not move like a 340 lb guy.

He's not 340. In person he's slightly bigger than Joe Burrow

I will say that I think Joe Burrow right now is Roided up, he hasn't had to Test for anything while being on the Injury report. It's a good time for players to take this risk and get healthy. He has 300 million reasons to do so.

Mims played a very limited amount, but when he did he was absolutely dominant, his ceiling is very high to me if not the highest behind Alt, but I think hes still a very solid floor especially in pass pro

Hard to imagine him not being an absolute stud with the proper coaching. Do we have that? JPJ really seems to be the most enticing way to improve this team immediately and long-term in a multitude of ways.

He looks like a stud. Only concern is injury for me other then that. I don't see how you can pass up on 1 of these 5 OT's or JPJ. Mimms looks the part to me BIG TIME. Without health concerns he's prolly 3rd for ceiling & an edge in run blocking. & RAW TALENT. I just don't see us getting a good young early type draft pick of a ROT unless we do it now. We are going to be picking at the end of 1st for a while. We need high end O-line youth.

If he had more experience and there were no concerns with the multiple injuries to the ankle he would be a top 10 lock with his traits and tape when he has played. A little tougher overall evaluation for him but if they are good with the medicals he has the upside to be a multiple time All-Pro type of player.

Always interesting hearing these evaluations from fresh eyes. I’m gonna guess it’s the two game sample size but this is the first time hearing Olu is a better run blocker than pass blocker. I’ve heard nothing but the opposite for months and months.

Bengals are the worst at evaluating ..drafting and developing Olineman in the entire league . At this point, if Im an OLman and they draft me, im refusing to play for them..bc its a GARUNTEED BUST. We said at the time they used a premium pick on Carmen (everyone hated the pick at the time, and it somehow looks worse now) If this doesn't pan out its a fireable offense. Zero accountability: How did someone not lose their job considering who we passed on to take him🤔?
@bengalselite9588

It’s not Mims it’s Pollack that scares me. Pollack has proven since he’s been in the league he is not good at developing and coaching up OLineman . I hate to say it but Mims could be a star if he had Bill Callahan or Eagles OL Coaching him up. I don’t have any faith in Pollack . He’s proven he’s not the guy for the job if your wanting to develop these guys . I’d go a safer route if I were he Bengals the last thing we need right now is to whiff or have an injury prone RT. Go with Newton or Byron Murphy or he’ll trade up for Tailese Fuagua . It be a safer route.

Can he stop end rushers like Watt?
@HermsWorldWide
@HermsWorldWide 3 ай бұрын
You act as if many can? Not to mention most rookies if not all are gonna get smoked by Watt so I'm not even sure what you're implying. Does he have the potential to be a OT in the league that can stop Watt? Yeah but it'll take time like most of these guys coming out, not many will come out instantly and be a all pro OT known for shutting the best edge rushers out. There is a reason OL are known for taking several years in the league before coming into their own. It's not a instant transition usually.

Joe you are correct i want jackson powers johnson then move karras to lg get 2 positions for the price of 1 also the steelers wants Jackson powers johnson badly mike Tomlinson was at senior bowl looking at him and steelers blog want him as well. Like they wanted dawand jones last yr. Jackson powers Johnson next to karras and kappa is great for our o line

@CookDaddy29
@CookDaddy29 3 ай бұрын
I like JPJ but moving Karras isn't getting 2 for 1. Karras is already a starter you just be moving him to a position he's prolly more of a average player at. They play JPJ at G. He would be your back up Center & possibly your back up OT wich would be major upgrades.

I just wish we had some sort of idea about the character of these guys. I worry about tools and traits players without knowing about their work ethic, attitude, toughness, etc. Too many freak athletes have been busts over the years because the mental makeup just didn't match the physical gifts. You can only develop a guy who's receptive to being developed. I don't want another Jackson Carman situation.
