BYU Basketball & Kevin Young Land Mawot Mag & It's OK For BYU Football Fervor | BYU Cougars Podcast

The BYU Cougars continue to build out Kevin Young's initial Big 12 Conference roster and Rutgers Scarlet Knight grad transfer Mawot Mag became the most-recent addition to the BYU men's basketball program and his fit seems be atypical of most NCAA Transfer Portal additions, but it appears to be a saavy pick up foe BYU basketball according to Jake Hatch and Jeff Hansen.
Jeff and Jake then talked about what prodded Hansen to write his second annual BYU football season preview magazine (BUY IT HERE: jeffhansen.gum...) and what fans of Brigham Young University (BYU) will find in the 135 pages of intel on the Kalani Sitake's program as well as their 12 regular season opponents they will face this season in their second season as members of the Big 12.
Finally, the show wrapped up with Jeff's reasoning for BYU fans to be more excited and enthused about the BYU football program than it appears they are and what gives him confidence that Aaron Roderick, Jay Hill, Connor Pay and whoever ends up starting at quarterback this season, among others, can lead the Cougars back to the postseason again.

It's really hard to get excited about BYU when the QB situation is as bad as it is. Maybe they surprise us and Retzlaff ends up being great. If not, then A-rod is in trouble. This is BYU, you've got to recruit at QB. If A-Rod can't do it then maybe we need to bring in someone who will.

Qb position is bad, but its not just the qb. Worst d-line in the Big 12, question marks in the secondary, depth issues at RB, and a below average O-line are all issues that lead to a Vegas over under at 4.5.

BYU Football... love Jeffs beginning football statement which is in direct conflict with the 'blue goggle' propaganda that has been tossed around the last month or two pushing Retzlaff by every dog in the BYU media pool. Ive been saying a couple things consistently. That BYUs talent level has never been the problem. Its their coaching thats been the elephant in the room. The BYU homer media's unwillingness to call a spade a spade and point the finger at the real problem is also ridiculous. We knew Funk was a problem two seasons ago and allowed the Tuiaki fiasco to overshadow our deficiencies. THAT is a Sitake problem that seems to be getting worse. Clarks firing was a straight up move to distact from ARods inability to scheme around other star talent on the Offense. Watching Holker break out at Colorado State put a spot light on ARods deficiencies.Clark wasnt in charge of calling plays that centered on the Tight Ends. That all being said? BYU's Oline can only be better this year. That bodes well for our Runningbacks and by extention the whole system will benefit. However, Arods fixation on Retzlaff which has to be behind BYU Medias fixation as well when you have B12 Champion Gerry Bohanon on the roster? Just more indicators of poor coaching decisions like we saw the last 4 games of last season. Last thought. Going 6-6 this coming season should be viewd as failure if the goal is to be competitive in the B12. Winning 3 games in a 9 game conference schedule isnt competitive. That is 'independent brain' thinking and needs to be changed...

Going 6-6 wouldn’t be a failure. Historically it takes teams 3 years to become competitive when moving into a power conference or a more difficult conference. This idea that BYU should win 7,8, or 9+ plus games is an unrealistic expectation. Is it possible? Sure, but too many people are acting like the best case scenario is the floor.

This year will be the end for Arod and possibly Kalani if things don’t get fixed. BYU football will be mediocre at best. 5-7. Stop being self centered think y’all are good. Oline will struggle despite media hype. Dline lost Danny in which your run game will suffer. DB’s are young and not a whole lot of experience. Y’all have the same 4 guys on Oline that either got hurt or couldn’t help in run game. Only positive note is you have a solid LB core which will help and decent WR group.
