Fascinating! Is this unit owned by the town?

Yes, they have owned and maintained it for many years. It still makes beautiful sidewalks.

What's the idea behind this not being self propelled? Simplicity and less parts?
@moconnell6632 ай бұрын
Wheel slip might disturb the compacted base material, especially since the wheels are so small.

Believe that you are right. Modern sidewalk pavers typically have powered track drives on each side for steering and propulsion. This simple older design has operated reliably for 70 years.

In the 50s there was no such thing as a hydro drive. There was no technology at the time that would have allowed such precise controll of the speed. Short of a full blown tractor drive train that is. Today it could easily be self powered a dozen different ways. The 50s were still fairly primitive.

Love to see common sense towns that actually use intelligence instead of spending all the tax payers money and then the town just collapses. I believe Austin tx. spent 255 million on electric busses and they wont say how many actually are still working today.
