I get what Adele was trying to say. She wasn't trying to portray an 18th century French woman so much as she was trying to portray a young woman in a complex and emotional situation.

Oh, in this film there is a lot of understatement with the sensual world of a woman who is between two natures - her own and ambivalent, like the nature of androgynous feelings. But the scene where the heroine of Noemie Merlan does not take her eyes off the Muse, Love, Girl, Madame, this does not mean anything to me, because it does not show the full depth of genuine yet unrevealed feelings. She could show the audience real feelings, but this would not be enough to show many of us that there is true love, passion, choice, destiny!)

i actually find the last question valid too. it's great to know that céline chose the colors of the costumes to her liking and in accordance to their aesthetic or visual impact. i guess we, as the audience, can make our own self-interpretation of this and their symbolism to our personal selves. the same with the true meaning of the ending. for me, we all know that héloïse is the "lady on fire," as fire being a symbol for the anger and the imprisonment or lack of liberty that she felt. but as marianne is also wearing a dress with the red color (akin to the color of fire), it supports the idea she told héloïse: "i understand you." she feels the feeling of her significant other. and how even though we view her as a free soul, she also has her internal battles. she is also right for the title "lady on fire." maybe that is how héloïse perceives her as well; as someone incredibly close to her. and as héloïse is wearing a blue-colored dress, which transitions into a white wedding dress in the last scene that continues to haunt marianne; if we simply look at marianne's final outfit, she is wearing blue; color initially related to héloïse. this means that héloïse really had an impact on her. héloïse still lingers in her, everywhere she goes. héloïse, along with their shared love, will forever remain in her memory.

God bless the viewer who asked about the last sequence -- I was so moved by Celine's answer explaining that this idea was what drove the film, and was her "compass" for the birth of portrait. It just says so much about the intention and proactivity it takes to execute a burning idea as a creator/writer/director. It's essentially filling the void of a silence.

Dios!! Good looking people tend to be more confident and outgoing, and it takes confidence and curiosity to step up with your question

They should have gone the extra mile to hire a personal interpreter....it would allow the director and actresses to speak with greater ease in their native language/mother tongue

Obviously they are enough fluent in English, albeit the cute French accent, they are good and it is best themselves than using a translator.

There are plenty of French interviews on line for you to listen to. The English ones are very entertaining and they manage despite dodgy grammar and struggling for vocab to still converse on an interesting and deep level.

Talking from experience, interviews with interpreters tend to suck. It may not obstruct the flow of thought, but it does obstruct the flow of communication.

I am not sure about that, because when people want to express something very professional from a specific branch, an interpreter is often creating a mess. I witnessed a few times such a situation.

Great film and great choice to not have music, which is often terrible in films.

I've seen so many of these Q and A's for this beautiful film and the moderators have often been poor. Often cutting off the ACTRESSES with a new question because Celine talks so much. You can see their frustration and Adele often gets more fidgety , Noemie often just giggles when they get moved on.

Adele changed noemie if y'all noticed! Before this film, noemie was very girly, but now she has that tomboyish style which I love ! Did Adele turned her a bisexual or what??? 🥺😭😂

I think her hairstyle changed for the next film after this. A Good Man, as I remember? In which she played a trans man. And her outfit choice is simply to match with her hair I guess.

Adele reminds me of Billie Eilish being interviewed very natural and expressive facial expressions.
