Don't forget to heat wrap the exhaust near the rear monospring to protect it.

I changed my 72 to a borgson conversion kit that I purchased in my restoration, what a difference, and no more leaking steering shaft. I recommend it

Do the Borgeson steering box. I have it and I replaced the factory power steering stuff with the leaky hoses and vague steering. Do this and have your alignment guy put in as much caster as he can, usually 3 degrees or so. It will take a few shims more than normal but needs to be done. The car will drive straighter with no wandering with plenty of assist. Don't hesitate do it now!!! I have a '76 L82 car with a warmed over original engine and 4 speed trans.

The pipe is rubbing, easy fix, and yeah, you've got that old steering gear, pitman arm setup, gotta turn it 100 times from center to lock ( LOL ), there's a plethora of aftermarket replacements for that problem, you can try Summit, Jegs, or Year One, just a few off the top of my head, VERY NICE BUILD THOUGH!👍👍👍

@@zande0001 Thanks. Just got the Borgeson box. Rack and Pinion would be nice, but this upgrade will do what I need and keep the OEM look and feel.
@alberthodge63121 күн бұрын
the reason I mention burnishing the parking brake shoes is that if you installed new shoes they can rub a small bit untill you burnish them making a cyclic sound.
@thedrivewayC321 күн бұрын
@@alberthodge631 Good point. I don’t think what I’m hearing is brake rotors, but they need to be broken in, so might as well eliminate that off the list and have better braking. 👍🏼

Looks to me even though the left side exhaust pipe is close the right side is bouncing around, making a rattle for sure. Watch the video again.
@thedrivewayC321 күн бұрын
@@johnnychally That could be, but the sound I’m interested in is more of a rotational rubbing sound, like the drive shaft or couplings are touching something. It tracks with movement.
@StreetersGarage21 күн бұрын
Hard to tell. It almost sounds like the rotor is rubbing up against the back plate.
@thedrivewayC321 күн бұрын
@@StreetersGarage The brake rotor on the inside plate?
@StreetersGarage21 күн бұрын
@@thedrivewayC3 Sorry. Backing plate / dust shield. It’s the sheet metal part that sits behind the brake rotor. Sometimes they can get bent and make contact with the rotor.
@thedrivewayC321 күн бұрын
@@StreetersGarage It’s possible, but it would have to have gotten bent by putting the car down from the jack. Everything was smooth, but I’ll check it when I jack up the car.

did you burnish your parking brake shoes.? Borgenson power steering system is the way to go.

@@alberthodge631 No, I didn’t do anything to the shoes. I just looked it up and will do that later. Thanks. Hope I didn’t mess anything up with a couple hard stops! I’m looking at the Borgeson system. Looks reasonable (Full upgrade for $950, with pump)
