Thanks everybody for watching. 5 Year Update Video kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5WZf3ytm7aCrcU. No I don't think this is too expensive. I'm happy with every dollar spent over the last 4 years. I'm getting a few comments saying this is all mods... yes this video mostly covers the cost of mods bc that's fun and that's what people like to see. Over $9k was still not related to any modifications. This $9k includes tax when I purchased the car, insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation. All these are costs in any car you choose to buy.

This is an open note to anyone thinking of buying a used Corvette. I have owned three over the last 20 years and can speak from experience. First, use autotrader, and search nationally. Do not restrict your search to your local market. You can get a deal in a smaller market for the same car in your local market... I did. I used a company called lemon squad to inspect the car for me. It was well worth the $140. Also, get a CARFAX report. Tools... and service manual. These are not super complex cars, and most small fixes will save you a ton in labour costs. Use rock auto for parts, too. Just plan ahead. Limit dealer visits to hard to find Corvette specific parts. I prefer Corvette Mods and Mid-American Corvette for Corvette specific parts vendors. Vette 2 vette is my salvage yard of choice. Unless you are made of money, be sure you are over 25... insurance could be a problem. Same goes if you have a bad driving record. Be willing to buy a high mileage car... It gives you options to upgrade certain parts, vs maintaining stock configurations. The C5 and C6 are seriously strong cars, and mileage won't hurt the chassis. Just be willing to do maintenance/mechanical restoration. If you have questions, feel free to ask. I run a small corvette forum called corvetteforum.guru. I cut my teeth on C4's... and If you can keep one on the road for 220k miles, you have done something!
@45auto823 жыл бұрын
I know this was a year ago, so I’d bet right now your Vette would be worth at least what you originally paid for it plus at least another $5,000, given what the C8 shortage and all have done to the Corvette market. Love your channel, will sub!

Very thorough summary of your expenses Dave. But, yep always a "but." BUT, you forgot the cost of the detail products you've used AND the cost of thermal underwear so that you can work on the Vette in our warm and balmy NJ winter weather. Hey, you know, it's all about the "details." 🤭 Save the Wave.🙋♂️
@YellowVette045 жыл бұрын
Detailing products would double the cost I just showed lol. Actually the cost of detailing products isn't bad, but it's probably higher than most only bc I got the dilutible gallon sizes for everything. This warm weather is crazy for this time of year, BUT I'll take it.
@petercarey68835 жыл бұрын
You were reading my mind on the amount of 💲💲💲 we spend on detailing products. Just in the last ten years of my Vette ownership I've probably spent enough to be able to twin-turbo it. Then, if I go as far back as before the beginning of time itself,🤦♂️ I have some liquid cleaning products that are in metal cans, like Dupont No.7 Tar Remover that are petroleum based. I keep these under lock and key in that they're the equivalent of having a 55 gal. drum of the old Sunoco lead based 260, which is what we used in our muscle cars when quarter mile-ing them. If I could put that Sunoco in my GS today, I wouldn't need to turbo it.🤣 Then again, we couldn't get more hp without building our motors with 11.5 to 1 compression pistons up to a max of !2.5 to 1 to barely keep it driveable on the street and then it took forever to find the right plugs to use and play with the timing using a tach and dwell gun. In case you don't know what that is, there is one on display at the Smithsonian.🤭 Today, the type of additional power that we to build into the motor is just done by using a laptop. Where't the fun 🤔in that? Yeah, I've probably had too much "fun" in my early years. Now I like the idea of using a computer. As soon as I figure out how to use one I'll be ready to start quarter-mile-ing 🏎 again.🎌 Now get out in your Vette today as early as possible. Looks like a new weather front is on it's way. Save the Wave.🙋♂️

Beautiful C5, but I may have you beat. I traded my 2004 Chevy 2500 4X4 diesel pickup truck that paid $10k for a 2002 Z06. Car had 29k miles. Triple black. Previous owner had just put on $8k worth of tires rims and headers (have receipts or I would’ve believed it). Year before that he did a small cam, air intake and Borla exhaust. Tuned at a speed shop putting out 570hp to the wheels. Not one scratch on the car, interior is perfect with an upgraded Panasonic entertainment and GPS system. Altogether his receipts came to $17k over a 2 year period. Moral to this story, you can find some great deals on these cars if you want to be patient.

Sounds like a great car for a great deal. I feel like there's 2 types of deals out there; the owner who thinks their C5 is a collector so it's priced $5k over fair price or the owner that had their fun and just wants to get rid of it for their next toy. Enjoy the Z, many miles and smiles

The $8150 was my cost after 3 years, that included tax, title, fees, insurance, maintenance and mods. At the time I didn't want to go over things I covered in previous videos, but this video got a lot more views than I ever imagined lol. I made update videos after 5 years that I released a couple months back, that may help a bit. I'm 35, so insurance is cheaper for my age group. Call up your insurance company and provide them with a VIN# of the car you're interested in and they'll give you a quote on the phone.

I should do a video of all my repairs. It would be an hour long.... lol, but true. Great video! BTW 3500 miles a year, really?! 10,000 a year here. Although now with the new chrome rims and this asshole governor brining and salting the roads every other day is making things difficult.

Cost of ownership is the main reason why the C5 - C7 are such a value. Road and Track did a 12 month test on a C7 and the new Boxter back in 2014. The Boxter cost some $3100 in services for 12 months and 40k miles. The C7? $620 for the same time and distance. The keys? 1. Helm Factory Service Manual. This book will save your ass. 2. RockAuto.com. Most of the Corvette specialty sites are expensive, and unless you need something dedicated to the Corvette, use RockAuto. I use either Mid America Corvette or Corvette Mods for Corvette specific. I have had issues with quality from Ecklers... price is also an issue. 3. TireRack is a great place for tires, brakes and shocks 4. Drive the damned thing. Cars are not engineered to sit in a garage and look pretty. Keep then exercised and they will serve you wonderfully. 5. Use good products... I use K&N Filters and Mobil 1 or Amsoil products. Motul brake fluid. 6. If on a budget, keep the mods to a minimum. They add up, quickly. Finally, depending on usage and drivers age, look into collector car insurance. The Corvette Museum offers such insurance and is well worth investigating. I think Adam Boca is still running that program, tell him bogus sent ya.

I would like to have seen your expenses broken down as follows: Actual required and or failed expenses as normal. Optional expenses by choice, new LED, headers, cam etc., Expenses for fuel, oil, etc. Insurance, state fees etc. while real are somewhat equal to al vehicle ownership. Example, my C5 has cost me "only" a front harmonic balancer (common as you know) and Sway bar end links (4). That has been my only true above and beyond expenses I consider everyday wear and tear expenses. Yes, I changed rims, tires, brakes, LED SS letters, etc. but those are "my choice", not demands of owning any specific car. I am not complaining and I applaud your modifications as you have done a great job. Your Video Header was somewhat misleading? Now if you want real ridicules cost of ownership, let me write a novel about my BMW.s and Porsches...absurdly expensive for normal wear and tear, and after 30 years of owning them I gave up and went to Corvette and I have (rarely) looked back. Keep up the great videos!
