Love this simple mod. Paired with my MGW, 1 washer seemed to be the sweet spot. I found that with 2 washers the return to center in neutral was a bit sloppy

Greg Lovell owner of AntiVenom speed shop in FL discovered the effects of the detent plug on the notchiness of the T56. Antivenom sold a plug that was just a plug without detent and ball. The original AntiVenom plug sold for $60 circa early 2000’s. Forum members caught on noticing a shim would have similar effects to going the plug route sold by AntiVenom. The shim hack soon became known as the “Anti-Venom mod”. So no it didn’t originate on Cobra forums, nor was it a forum member known as “Anti-Venom. Some of you guys are just making sh*t up.

Just done the anti venom modification, haven’t driven yet but it feels much less notchy. I ve started with 2 washers & I’ll let you know how I get on. Thanks again for the video, it wasn’t easy finding the plug but watching the video made it possible.

Awesome AND Subjective mod to each's own liking!! For my C5 Z06 the sweet spot was 1 washer, cut down the OEM shift lever 7/8 of an inch(to retain back to OEM conversion), and a heavy, weighted shift knob!! It's NOT a B&M, Hurst, or MGW....but is certainly as "click-click", shorter throw as OEM can get!!! (you can cut the shift lever even shorter but recall your Physics 101 about fulcrums and levers...as it increases the effort to row thru the shift pattern!!) Save the Wave!!!

From what I understood when I did the research for my C5 is it originated in the cobra forms (hence anti-venom) on there T56s and the Vette community noticed having the same transmission did the same I only did 1 washer and bought a used shifter out of a C6Z. Love the way it feels. If I ever change it up. Probably get a MGW and add the second washer.

You’re incorrect. The name “AntiVenom” and the mod originated with a speed shop named “AntiVenom” in FL. They originally sold just a plug for $60 that replaced the OE detent plug with spring and ball. Someone caught on realizing simple brass washers would have the same effect and shared it on the forums. Afterwards the washer shims were referred to as the “Anti-Venom mod”.

I’ve tried the AntiVenom mod with 2 washers & very pleased with the result. Way less notchy, I’m sure I did something to my wrist driving the car last year 😅

interesting how much easier it is to access on your car, than my TR6060 Z06 with the 3" pipes. I really struggled accessing it. And how tight my detent bolt was to remove (even with a 24" force bar). I actually thought something would snap. Anyhow, I do have a MGW shifter (vast improvement over sloppy stock...even though car only had about 15k). I stayed with one shim only...and it does improve notchiness, albeit incrementally. I felt that 2 washers, reduced centering a bit much. Either way, it sure ain't a Honduh or Bimmer shifter, but hey...its all the way in back and a vast improvement. Good video!

Ya, those 3" pipes take up more room than you would think! Surprised yours was that tight - odd. Thanks for the feedback!

Great video! Did you install 1 or 2 washers on your c5 to achieve your smoother shifting? I might go ahead and do this tomorrow.

I tried them both, and I think I left two in. Definitely could tell a big difference between zero, one, and two.

@@Toys4Lifeummm, only that’s not true at all. Why @DirtDude117 made that up is bizarre. AntiVenom is the name of the speed shop in FL that first manufactured an actual detent plug that didn’t have the spring plunger and ball on the end. It was just a plug and it sold for $60. Someone figured it out that shimming the OE plug had the same effect. And this hack soon replaced the original AntiVenom mod we all refer to as the “Anti-Venom mod”.

I was going to try one washer after installing a B&M sport shifter, but the hole was counter sunk. Because of that it didnt look like the washer was going to work like it should. I havent driven the car much since then, but still would like to know why it would be like that. I couldnt find any info about it, and cant think of why its like that. Ive been all over the car and never saw anything that wasnt factory, or would indicate repair/replacement of any original parts. Do you have any idea why it is like that? The original shifter seemed normal based on all research I had done on it. It was a long throw I thought.
@Toys4Life8 ай бұрын
If the washer (s) keep the detent plug with ball from depressing the spring as far, it will make it less notchy. Not sure what might be going on with yours??

Will this mod reduce the life of the synchro's on each gear ? I read it from a C6 forum, notchy time delay gives enough time for the synchro's to align before transitioning into the gear.

In my opinion, no.

IMO just get the mgw. It’s worth the money and the best shifter in the market. I’ve had mgw’s on 3 mustangs and now my C5z. They never disappoint.

IMO the mgw is an overpriced shifter. ( you don't even get the lower box ) The C6 shifter, works great and is only half the cost.
@gotmylk8 ай бұрын
No comparison between the MGW and C6 OEM shifter. The MGW is far superior but a bit “notchy” until it’s broken in. And yes, the new MGW shifter does come with a billet lower box.

Wow your out driving car on these salty Minnesota roads?? I see a lot of people driving nice cars cause “ it is nice out” but I guess I don’t stop driving my nice cars cause of the weather but cause of all the salt and right now it is fine powdered salty gravel covering the roads. I live in central Minnesota and the roads are saltier than McDonald’s French fries right now!! no rain in sight.

Just a little bit. IMO, Dry salt is o.k.. it's the wet dirt infused sticky salt that gets thrown up and sticks everywhere and doesn't dry for a long time that I avoid like the plague.

@@Toys4Life I see it turning into an ultra fine powder kind of like driving down a dry gravel road just not as intense getting in everywhere , then boom 100% humidity MN summer salty moisture everywhere, lol. To each his own.. will have to add that to the questions when buying a car ever drive it in the winter? No, how bout the spring of 2024 🤨
