Shiny rubbery silicone probably wont take paint and will likely make the area around it unpaintable without fish eyeing. If it says paintable on the container it is not silicone. Silicone of any sort is generally never allowed in a body or paint shop, someone spraying tire shine once will ruin paint jobs for the next month as it gets into any dust that is around and some of that microscopic dust makes it onto whatever is being painted causing a fish eye rather than just being absorbed into the paint. Booth filters, even hepa filters wont take it out of the air well enough not to cause problems with paint. This would have been best done with panel bond or windshield adhesive, or any urethane sealer would work but wouldn't do as well with heat or possible fire. Its probably not a huge deal for the firewall on a drift car but for anyone that wants something to look good the warning is there.

Another tip for the plasma cutter - you can cut your templates ~ 1/8th or so small and use them as the guide to cut around. Especially useful for complex shapes - and it won't burn or fire up the cardboard. Also - for the panels, if you don't want to rivet them in and use silicone, pick up a tube of 3M panelbond. It will seal and hold them without the need for rivets.

Great work,only thing you will have issues with the silicone as paint will not adhere to it. As a painter myself i would recommend to remove it and use Seam Sealer instead. Curing time is as fast as that silicone. Hope you didn't paint it yet !!

A really handy tip to make silicone look good is to wear a glove and put some ispro alcohol and the silicone will not stick allowing you to smooth it out nice and neat fuss free!

While it's always good to add a new skill to your personal tool box, you could have used the carboard templates and just fiber glassed right over the cardboard on both sides. As you are only making block offs, you really don't need the strength of the steel. Also noticed that most of the other block offs where translucent, means Sean didn't put any steel plates in them. God bless and stay well. OK, so steel block-offs instead of fiber glass. That works too.

When you've seen a cut off wheel explode into someone's face. To the point where they have to spend 8 hours in surgery get pieces removed from left eye socket and left sinus cavity. You tend to respect them more but also fear them more. When I see someone using one without a face shield it freaks me out.
@TheCSHeckler2 жыл бұрын
Great work on the Vette Collette, I love your cooperative approach to the build. Ive been wanting to say for a while that you and Chris work well together. You have the only Auto Vlog that regularly has a gay man on board, unless theyre hiding,in others and while its not a personal issue for me its makes your vids a real human space' and Chris is quite a character. I have two suggestions which you can take or leave. First, I'd love to see you driving your Veloster or the TT at the Firm every couple of weeks, getting track fit for all the racing I hope to see you doing. Show your sponsors that you're commited and ready. Second, I enjoyed your episodes on painting helmets. So if uou were to have a couple of days doing Art and Design project every couple o weeks it would add tyo your repityoire I may have a different style to yours (not too much) but I can see that you know what you like and are brave enough to take risks. Perhaps you could design and paint a series of affordable race helmetys wit Collette Davis designs. I know you love fashion but theT shirt game is so oversubscribed that suppliers cant meet demand. Their are problematic ethical issues with all quick fashion (think child labour) and helmets might be a safer bet. Keep it up team.
