Great lesson. Never played guitar but like everyone else - always wanted to learn. Just got a rouge lap steel in hopes to sit down and learn. So far I’m on day 3 still working on this lesson you made. Great info and the best I’ve found. Maybe I’m just a slow learner but it’s looking like it will take me at least a month to be smooth enough to play along. Thanks for this video. I’m part of the new generation and want to keep this instrument alive as this is what’s missing in music nowadays. Thanks again.

Awesome, it's always GREAT to see someone new come along to keep the tradition going. Everybody wants to be a shredding heavy metal guitar player, it's nice to know that there are still some sane people out there. lol All my best.

Love that Dobro slide machine --do they use much heavier strings than a std Strat?--I see the strings are at least 1/2 inch above the pickup ?

Thank you for a long and helpful tutorial. If i may ask a question: what gauge strings would you recommend for C6 tuning? I bought a budget lapsteel but it might sound better with new strings, nit the stock issue set. Thank you for any advice. Off to learn Your Cheating Heart now!
@groovydjs
@groovydjs Жыл бұрын
Glad that you enjoyed it. Here are the string gauges: 0.015, 0.017, 0.022, 0.026, 0.030, 0.036 I hope that helps you out.

@groovydjs great video! would that be the same gauge for an acoustic resonator/dobro? Snapped a string before seeing your video 🤦‍♂️

Great lesson, how do you recommend I tighten my low end strings for c6 tuning? I tried .036-.054, and its not tight at all. Maybe a nut riser? Its a gretsch with 22.5 scale length
@groovydjs
@groovydjs 9 ай бұрын
The strings for this tuning are supposed to be 015, 017, 020, 026, 030w, 036w The nut riser may very well be the answer for it.

What gauge roughly are those strings ---and can u use open tunings or STD tuning?--finger style or are steelpicks essential?

Dumb question are there a lot of country songs with different other then E tunnings like in rock like the stones or Led Zeplin like a G tunning. All I ever used was an E tunning for one I only had one guitar and no teachers or people to tell me about these different tunnings. I feel like rumple stilskin n how much easier it s to play in the right tunning a lot of stones songs I knew I was close but something was wrong and I knew it but I didnt know what the issue was and even if you watched them play it was still confusing.

Can a regular guitar amp be used with the lap steel. How are the knobs usually set on the amp. Is there any board used to change to the country tone. I play dobro usually in open G. This C6 tuning is a very different monster.

If you are tuning up for the first time with a fresh set of strings, would you recommend using a keyboard or piano to tune up?
@groovydjs
@groovydjs Жыл бұрын
I would go with a clip on headstock tuner. The keyboard would be more accurate than a piano, but both will be a bit tough going. You'll have to tune up, stretch the strings a bunch, tune up again, stretch again and do it a couple more times and then they will stop going out of tune.

I wish that Peavey still made them. I'm not sure why they quit...a lot of folks like them and ask about them.

I believe guitar center and or musician's friend has them used as of this date early May 2024, saw one for 250 another around 3 or more... I might get one I'm not sure... I already have three laps steels, I'd rather have a bunch of different tunings so I can just grab a different one as I want to play something different.... Go back and forth... By the way I'll make a separate question but I can't find cow pie or rough stock .... I think I found the site where they changed it or some features are no longer available. I'm not sure what I'm looking for
