It's not really a clone. This was originally Giana 2 with a future setting but the lawsuit stuff still very present they changed the title and altered the sprites of the main character. So technically it IS Giana 2.

bonus areas (not in this LP) can be found in stage 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 13. not in the later levels sadly. they work more or less like in Giana Sisters, except it teleports you back to the last terminal you entered. it means finding them isn't always good, considering time limit (most notably in stage 2 and 9).... pass(word) is for finding the warp terminals. they can be found in stage 6, 11, 14, 18 and 22. they warp you to a special stage, with solid black background. if you lose life there, you will be warped back to the original level. in success, you will be warped ahead 4 levels, except in stage 22 which leads you to a more challenging version of stage 1. technically its a 4 level warp too, as finishing stage 25 leads you back to stage 1 as well in more challenging form. the stage 6 and stage 18 warp levels are the same, you will be encountered by flying aliens in both.

Love this game. I remember finishing Giana Sisters, but I don't think I ever finished this one. I think my copy was just buggy. :D

shoot has an S symbol, bomb and shield have some item symbols (slightly different, the bomb looks like some diamond, and the shield looks rectangle shaped), pass looks like an american football, 1-up has a P symbol, 1000 and 2000 points are in solid red balloon, and has 1P or 2P symbols. the 1000 and 2000 points powerups can be shot with bullets.

Does someone remember something about a sword? I was only 6 or 7 years old but i remember this: it happened only one time (and me and my brother didn't know how is happened) and then we didn't find again that sword in that place

the power up pattern is this: shoot, bomb, 1000 points, shield, pass, 1-up, 2000 points... then again bomb, 1000 points, shield, pass, 1-up, 2000 points... then again. shoot only appears at the start, or right after losing a life, but it's not part of the later pattern. it means if you have the 3rd shoot dot in the lower left corner, you have lost a life. shoot is quite important though, as it allows more bullets on 1 screen. sadly, the Amiga version flamethrower is not in the C64 version.

Jesus F Christ. Back in 1997 i was playing this and it was self repeating all the time. I was like when the boss will appear? So this was it! Thanks so much for the gameplay. Can i ask whats the name of the game with the boy who throwing axe and using skate sometimes? you had 3 lives in the beginning i guess. It was kinda like this, screen was always going to the right afaik. The character was a boy.

Just because two objects have spike on top doesn't make them the same object. The spiky enemies in Metroid look totally different.

Absolutely! Giana was a far better game. I think they needed to change the graphics so much to comply with Nintendo that sadly this is the result

That's a question of personal taste. Objectively the graphics of Hard'n'Heavy (yes, that's the correct spelling!) are more detailed, more animated, and there is simply more graphics on screen to begin with. You may not like the way it looks but again, that's personal taste. Some people prefer a space shooter, others prefer a tank shooter and some may prefer a sailboat picking up little ducklings; yet none of that says anything about the graphics quality, as in the end also the last one may have the best graphics.
