The grey Hellcat looked like it launched in second gear, a popular tactic to keep it from blowing the stock street tires off in low gear. My Redeye won't launch in low with the stock 315/35 Pirellis on any street surface without spinning them badly. The white one definitely launched in low and ran a 1.3 second quicker elapsed time (probably running drag radials). Wasn't impressed with the C8, either - that's supposed to be a low-11 second ride, stock.

No, the C8 was designed specifically to drag race first and foremost and hook up. The guy just messed up the launch... Nothing beats a c8 out of the hole unless it's all wheel drive and then sometimes they still won't....

@@dd9354 it's illogical to even think that a streetcar was just designed as a track car. The engineer that I spoke with working on the project said they wanted to make sure that it hooked up out of the hole like nothing else and part of the limitations they had was the engine was not in the back. Of course it's has the capability of being a track car, but almost nobody is going to take it to the track and everybody's going to drag race it. If you're going to take it to the track there are different settings you have to use and options to order for that specific task.... The one you get right off of the showroom floor stock is not that great on the track, but if you select the right options it is. The point is the reason the c8 was slow out of the hole is because the guy didn't know how to drive it. It has nothing to do with the car at all they are wicked out of the hole..

The problem with most Corvette owners is they baby their cars too much. Guy wouldn't even warm up his tires before launching and wonders why he lost. You don't have to scorch your tires and make a giant cloud of smoke. A few spins is enough as long as your tires don't suck. Wearing a few millionths of an inch off your tires sucks a hell of a lot less than wrecking your car and having your insurance tell you you're out of luck.

The first time I got behind the wheel of a c8 I ran a 2.8 0-60 on the street lol its not hard you just have to know how to put it in competitive mode to launch it, its so easy floor the brake floor the gas dump the brake and boom you win

I really don't think that's why people are complaining. The Corvette past its break in period hits low 11s and very high 10s at the drag strip. 2.7s to 60mph and 11.18 was achieved on the street without vht that's on the drag strip, therefore the driver had serious issues

Doesn't surprise me - it has a 1000 pound weight advantage and 2/3 of it is right on top of the rear wheels. No doubt about it - the HC needs to go on a diet but with the current platform, it can't, not without tremendous expense.

@@frankshanks9726 a C8 Stingray Z51 isn’t faster than a Hellcat, C8 1/4 mile is 11.2 compared to about 11 flat for Charger Hellcat, but it is impressively close to be N/A vs SC’d 495hp vs 707hp, it’s the weight, C8 not only much lighter, it’s engine in the back helps it get traction better.

@@frankshanks9726 idk where you get your info from but it’s way off, a Charger Redeye is in the 10.6 range, with GT500 and C8 ZO6, and Z51 has been a model from C6, C7 and now C8, base is just Stingray, or you can get Stingray Z51. I’m not sure but a regular 392 Charger is close to 12 seconds, with 485 hp so how could an 807 hp version only be a couple tenths faster? Sam from KZbin doesn’t know everything, but I know what you don’t.
