I can't believe I found this, today I changed the oil on a c90, I did exactly what you said and accidently undid the cam tensioner bolt first, now I have a clattery sound but thanks to your video I will be recharging it with oil. Thankyou 😊

when priming that hole why wouldn't you just lay the bike over at an angel to get more in there then put the bolt back in before you stand it up straight.

Hi there I have a question, when you remove the spring will the metal ball fall out? I want to change the oil on my 110cc and I thought that it was the oil drain and the spring shot out, and I didn't notice if the ball shot out as well! I put it all back together with the pieces I had but no ball because I couldn't find it, I'm worried it might damage the engine
@DaveSluggy7 жыл бұрын
Hi - Not a problem your motor will be fine - the ball valve is within the plunger part and won't fall out on it's own.

out of interest, if you don't mind indulging me, what would happen if you turn the clutch clockwise and jam the chain in there with some force, i turned counter and it came out and free'd up fine but could anything have gotten damaged inside? thanks in advance
@andrewclark59919 жыл бұрын
It's the middle of the night so I won't try this technique just yet for the sake of my neighbors...But I did the same rookie mistake and ever since I put it back together, the bike is extremely hard to start and when it does start, it is really slow. If I prime the tensioner will it take care of that problem?
@DaveSluggy9 жыл бұрын
+Rico Suave Unlikely, more probably the cam chain has jumped a tooth on the sprocket so check the cam timing before doing anything else, if it's more than one tooth out then it will have bent one of the valves and your going to need to strip the top end down.
@andrewclark59919 жыл бұрын
+DaveSluggy Darn I just checked it and it looks like my timing is in spec. I Googled and it looks like I am supposed to be at 9 o'clock on the sprocket. Im actually at 3 oclock, and there is a T mark on my fly wheel that is supposed to line up. I don't know what else it could be. it will start up cold, but not warm and will usually die pretty quick and has no mid range. when I reinstalled the spring I ended up cutting some of it off because I had initially installed it wrong and bent it pretty bad. It doesn't seem like that is the issue though.

Amazing video and explanation. So clear. I have a question my can chain is loose due to which I m getting that tak tak or clicking or knocking sound. Is there a anything that I can do with that tensioner to probably reduce the free play? And can one replace that big black sprocket in the bottom below the chain? My cam chain gets loose after 3-5k kms on a daily commuter bike.
@DaveSluggy7 жыл бұрын
If the tensioner is working properly - check the ball valve in the plunger is free and rattles when you shake it. The best fix will be to replace the cam chain itself. You can replace the lower sprocket - it's not easy as this is the oil pump drive and it's screwed onto the shaft so you will have to remove the clutch and oil pump from the opposite side of the engine.
@chamjiskykhan82527 жыл бұрын
DaveSluggy thanks for the quick response. I replaced the cam chain and the cam noises are gone. Now there is some other sound that's most likely the bearing sound..as there was no vertical play in con rod big/small end.

@robertkjotar18779 жыл бұрын
At 3:00, are you sure that hole is for filling? Because what i've read the tensioner gets oil from the oil you fill in your machine. Because if you fill it like that in the little whole the tensioner will tension the chain too much and it will sooner or later brake. (The chain)
@DaveSluggy9 жыл бұрын
Robert Kjötar The Honda manual states to add 1cc of oil through this hole on assembly. Originally this was the locking bolt for the manual cam chain tensioner system; the plunger had a ramp on the side that was pushed upwards by a spring and then locked into place by a cross bolt.
@robertkjotar18779 жыл бұрын
DaveSluggy Hmm, okay. But 1cc? 1cc=1ml right. When i filled it i filled it until it started coming out oil like you said on the video. Wouldn't that be too much then?
@DaveSluggy9 жыл бұрын
Robert Kjötar You can't really over-fill it; the excess will run out of the opposite hole into the casings.
@robertkjotar18779 жыл бұрын
DaveSluggy Hmm okay, because i've had a problem with my Honda Z50J (same engine type as C90) the cam chain would jump teeth. So the piston would start hitting the valves. But it stopped after i filled that hole on the video but that means that the oil pump isn't working properly? The tensioner didn't have enough oil pressure to tension the chain seems like. But why i asked about over-filling it was because it started running slowly and felt like it have lost power and i though that maybe was because the chain is too tensioned. Thanks for the replies!
@Mukeshmiktecrep8 жыл бұрын
Filling it with oil is a must thing to do, because the air in the tensioner stops the oil from entering down the tensioner piston and ball valve on the first few starts and cam chain may skip some tooth.

I acquired a CT90 but it is missing the bolt located in the middle of the cylinder. you can easily see it in the beginning of this video. what is that bolt for?
@baileythesleepless99667 жыл бұрын
This engine is not a CT90 engine, it's a C90 engine. However, both have that bolt in the cylinder and that bolt holds a guide wheel for the cam chain in place. If there's no bolt there then either you don't have that wheel or it is stuck in the engine somewhere so be careful.
@DaveSluggy7 жыл бұрын
It holds the 'rubber wheel' cam chain guide roller in place.

I actually didnt replace the oil that fell off. The motor clanked badly till the clanking went away on its own. I thought i did'nt positioned the tensioner right thats why it wasmaking noise but still i feel that the engine sound doesnt appear to be neat as it was before. Is it because of the tensioner or just my mind playing tricks on me? I also feel a loss in power... is it the tensioner the culprit?
@DaveSluggy4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you may have the cam timing incorrect, it could have jumped a tooth when it was loose.

If it's the same type of tensioner as the one shown in the video then it will be a easy to remove using the bottom plug bolt, undo this and the spring and plunger will fall out allowing it to be easily replaced and refitted.
