CA Made Gotrek A Spellcaster??

To be fair, Settra is meant to be a pretty shitty spellcaster, he shouldn’t even be capable of casting spells since he doesn’t have the senses to “see” the winds of magic, but he’s able to clumsily wield the winds through sheer force of will and stubbornness.

I fully expect this to perhaps be due to Dwarf Runes previously being displayed as arcane items around the character portraits on the UI. I have nothing to base this on, just a guess.

That was my exact suspicion and part of the reason why I discovered it. So I expect that the new Slayer legendary hero will have the same result when you steal him with diplomacy. Again I suggest Yuan Bo for that.

it's actually BECAUSE he is a dwarf. A dwarfen character, specifically. Because all dwarfen characters, spellcaster or not get access to character runes, which is their replacement for arcane items, so when he is outside of a dwarf faction he gets the arcane item slot instead. I think.

yeah, it's probably a matter of Arcane Items filling the same slot as Dwarf Runes all Dwarfs have access to Dwarf Runes, even the ones that aren't Runesmiths (the closest Dwarfs get to spellcasters) Gotrek, who is a Dwarf and therefore has access to Dwarf Runes, has Arcane Items when you use him in any other faction. Ulrika, who is the only proper spellcaster the Dwarfs have access to, gets access to Dwarf Runes instead of Arcane Items when you recruit her when playing as a Dwarf faction. Felix is neither a Dwarf nor a spellcaster, so he doesn't get Dwarf Runes or Arcane Items regardless of the faction he's in.

That's because of the bug when he never shows up in early build of 5.0 without dlc installed, because game recognizes him as a dragon slayer hero, CA changed his "hero type", now you can get Gotrek but with a smaller bug.

You can also assign Gotrek ancillary items meant only for lords, which is handy.

My assumption is that because when you play dwarves you can put runes on him, and perhaps the code treats that as an arcane item slot for other races that don't have rune slots.

I think it might have something to do with how they slot character runes when playing as a dwarf faction. For example if you acquire Ulrika as Malakai you can slot a character rune into her casting slot. When you acquire gotten as a non dwarf faction instead of character rune slots it gives you a casting slot. Minor oversight during the rework I suppose but this is why I love the game

In Malakai's faction he does not have access to arcane items but has rune slots. Could be bug connected to that, because Ulrika in Malakai's faction has arcane item and that slot is named character rune :D :D So it's a bug...runes = arcane items for the game. most likely if you'd steal a dwarf hero to different faction, using the borrow army with immortal hero exploit. That dwarf would also have arcane slot instead of his rune slots.

I think this may be the result of fixing a glitch; originally, if you didn’t have the dlc, Gotrek wouldn’t spawn. This was in the prerelease build. This is because he was coded as a Dragon Slayer hero, and that’s a dlc unit. Now, my theory is that he was changed to the Rune magic hero, which is why he has that slot.

I'm guessing that this is partially to do with the fact that he gets the 3 rune slots as a dwarf and for all other factions he can't get them so they may have had this as a compromise.

Guarantee this gets fixed before day-1 bugs. Blade of the Serpent's Tongue hasn't worked since WH2, Nasty Skulkers' combat bonus is still "in melee" instead of "winning in melee" and Dwarf Rangers still don't have their cloaks. FFS.

Might be because in the Cathay roster, gotrek counts as an alchemist or an astromancer, in terms of his army/region effects, so it's given him an arcane item because it thinks he's one of the spellcasting heroes
