This is probably the best cab removal video on YT. Thanks . Rebuilding my 2004½ 6.0 with 374k miles . People talk crap, but this engine, when proper updates are made, it's a 100% stud of a diesel engine.

I agree, with the right updates the 6.0 can be one of the best motors Ford made! With that said, I am a 7.3 guy simply for their factory reliability, but I have a lot of buddies that have gone through their 6.0 and not only are they now reliable but they are a power force to be reckoned with!

I have a 99 7.3 and this winter while I'm out of work for a few months I want to get back in there and do some work that's easier with the motor out. All the work I have done so far as been done either through lfting the cab just enough or lifting the motor just enough ie. body bushings, oil pan, ect. I do have an engine hoist, but I have been hesitant to pull the motor. I sure do wish you could be closer to me for your exertise as I am not mechanic and I am always second guessing myself. Thanks for the great video, I liked and saved the video for later, it'll surly get watched over and over again!

I dont know what amazes me more here, A-Rod's attention to detail and his work ethic or the fact that this guy got a premium care warranty on an 06 Powerstroke. Great explanation of the cab removal man, if a customer ever asks why it costs so much to do head gaskets, you can always point them to the video and they can see just how much work pulling a cab is. Mind you watching guys take cabs off in less that an hour and a half is always something else, one thing I will say though Ford sure made it easy to get the 6.7 cabs off compared to the 6.4's and 6.0's. An engineer finally listened maybe? who knows but still makes life a little easier.

I forgot to have my AC Vac'd until it was too late, so just removed the AC compressor and hung it securely; that was a "fun time had by all," but it worked. Thanks again for an informative video. I've found it easier on the 6.0 and 7.3 trucks to remove the front 2 seats instead of the rear seat. Much quicker and you're still able to access the middle cab bolt with an impact. I also remove the "twangs" on the rubber flap directly below the radiator since they're easier to get at and the rubber piece will just hang with the frame. Never removed the entire brake system like that, typically remove the lines coming off the module and plug everything off so there aren't leaks and a lot of air doesn't get in the system. Pretty cool to see how people do cab lifts differently. Keep up the vids!!!

@JohnD5955 жыл бұрын
Jerry Brandt stock 12 valve makes about 160hp at the crank. They can be turned up obviously. Cummins make great torque that is undeniable but for high horsepower v8s take the straight six any day
@jerrybrandt93775 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of i6 making 1000 hp with stock internals. Anyways diesels are more for torque ! After all their for pulling and the i6 will always be king of the highway thanks to all the big trucks out there? V8 do better when fed gas!! I agree with you they are more radical and twist faster. But again I have a Kenworth with only 400 hp but around 2000 ft lb . A v engine don't have the geometry to achieve the stroke of any inline engine ever!!! Look it up.

Aaron buddy. I thought 6.0L diesels were old news for us dealership techs. Wow, it's been ages since I've needed to remove a cab on any 6.0 F-Series. I see you remove the HCU and master cylinder as one unit. I used to just disconnect the three HCU brake lines at the HCU and duct tape the holes while raising the cab with the HCU and master attached. I want to point out, the front two cab nuts are 18mm, not 19mm. If I recall correctly, the driver side cab fasteners were 24mm while passenger side were 21mm. I always wondered why Ford did that. If I may be so bold as to offer an alternative serving suggestion regarding the middle cab fasteners? Try removing all the fasteners for the front seats, and just lift the center section of the carpet just enough so that you can easily access that grommet and fastener with the air weapon of your choice. This way, you won't have deal with the BS of having to remove that awkward and heavy rear bench seat through tight quarters and risk scratching up the rear door panels in the process. Not to mention that stupid black plastic utility tray with the three 8mm bolts that one of them (I forgot which exact one) always seems to have a tendency to want to cross thread during removal.

Lol, yeah i another viewer suggested that too. Ill have 2 try next time. Thought that was a good idea.

this is a great video. I have an early '03 f250 that I'm pretty sure needs injectors. I have had a miss for a while now. I'm lucky enough to have a 2 post 10k lift in my pole building at home. So I guess pulling the cab is something I should do. I don't think my heads are studded and the truck has about 194k on it. I can see for sure how pulling the cab (4 full doors) will make getting to everything on the engine insanely easy compared to trying to even attempt it with the cab on.

I wish I could find a shop that would pull the cab for me and let me come in and put do some upgrades it be so much easier to change out the y pipe and put a regulated return on make sure my down pipe isn't leaking and do a couple other things. I have a leak either under my turbo or behind it I made a boost test plug and I can hear air coming out from behind or under the turbo. I think my why pipe or down pipe clamp isn't on flush I have noticed my EGTs go up pretty quick even when im not pulling anything everytime I get up to about 55mph my EGT Guage is reading 6 ot higher it gets almost into the yellow I also noticed the other day when I was pulling a small motorcycle trailer with my duke 1290r on it that the EGTs were getting almost into the yellow and when my truck downshift and my boost reached 13psi the EGTs dropped back down pretty quick I also noticed my turbo feels like its struggling to get up to 15psi or higher I have to really get on the gas and my sct was set on performance not sure if that is normal I forgot to switch it to a tow tune

MFB Alaska It really isn't that bad. Saves time actually. I'm sure labor time on a duramax is about the same.

About to do mine soon, 2003 f350. It's got oil in the degas bottle so I'm just guessing it's head gaskets or oil cooler

Just, oil cooler. U will need to replace everything that is rubber. Flush the engine and remaining cooling system with simple green and dawn dish soap combo

Thanks, diesel tech Ron had a video on how he flushed his. Any recommendations on how to fix the situation? I've seen some "bulletproof" oil coolers out there but I'm unsure which one to pick

Thankfully the 6.0 and 6.4 days are over. Now I just see them completely gutted in the salvage yards when I take the d60s off lol

Awesome vid!! Well worth waiting for. Do you lock the steering wheel so the clockspring doesn't get damaged
