At 20:35 traction current most be turned off you can hear because the engines are not humming. The train has offcourse plenty of speed and this goes unnoticed when on board the TGV or Thalys. I noticed that all 25 KV catenary´s has these sections. Nice video!

So essentially the train is going trough a phase break, which is a small section of isolated overhead wire, which separates two sections that are fed by a different power source, making it likely that the phase is not the same in both sections. Since AC power is continuously cycling in polarity, you'd need to be completely sure that the two different sections are perfectly synchronized in this cycle. If there is a very tiny (or larger) gap, the pantograph would momentary short circuit between the two, possibly causing a huge current spike and disaster. Usually, since all sections are connected to the same power grid, phase is mostly synchronized. However, there will always be places where it's either not possible or there's a chance that the power source gets separated from the regional grid and out of sync. This becomes incredibly difficult over long distances when power is coming from different sources via differing paths, so they just insert phase breaks so that no harm is done if things aren't all perfect.

and the trains can just use their momentum to speed along, without slowing down noticeably, as these sections are usually only about 500 meters long. And a train going 130 km/h already has enough momentum to keep going for 30 km, let alone a train going 300km/h.

I compare the TGV lines to the US NEC and Keystone Corridors; in the latter case, between Thorndale and Philadelphia's 30th Street Station.

Lille is near the Chanel and the Belgian border up north of France. But if the fast lines TGV trains are fine; the other mid lines inter city are crap and not in very good condition. U.K. is better than France for this .... omnibus that stops to all stations are also in very poor condition du to people vandalism. Not to mention that the condition of the train you find in Paris aren’t the same you could find all around France unless TGV ones. Paris are always a little better. So this TGV runs from Lille down to Paris; but honestly, you don’t miss anything not living in France.

J'ai fait un Lille-Strasbourg en cabine il y a 7 ans mais c'était jusque Baudrecourt puis Reding, Saverne... A 320 km/h sur la LGV Est avec passage à l'endroit du record du monde (574,4). Maintenant c'est jusqu'au raccordement de Vendenheim. Franchement c'est impressionnant en cabine avec 24.000 cv (2 rames) qui pousse derrière ton siége. INOUBLIABLE !!!!!

En Norvège j'ai fait la ligne Bergen-Oslo (371 km, 7h00mm), voie unique courant alternatif 16 KV 16/2.3 hz. Mais là en temps que simple voyageur. MAGNIFIQUE !!! Des paysages grandioses. Donnée pour l'une des plus belles lignes ferroviaires au monde.

Il faut souligner la qualité de nos agents de traction (surtout ceux de Fives, La Délivrance, Lens, Aulnoye... mdr ) leurs professionnalismes, leurs responsabilités et surtout leurs gentillesses. C'est un beau métier. NOUS AVONS LES MEILLEURS CHEMINS DE FER AU MONDE et c'est certainement pour cela que l'ONU des chemins de fer mondiaux (UIC) est implantée à Paris. Respect à tous !

an hour to go 219km yes. if this was Amtrak it take 3 hours and have to make like 5-6 station stops. I mean hell the line from Washington DC to Boston is 400 miles and the fastest train takes 6hrs. A TGV train would only make two and be there in 3hrs.

Hi, Kevin Howard, I understand the distance between DC and Boston is 456 miles, and it takes 6 1/2 hours for the Acela to cover that distance; the TGV covers the 466 miles (750 kilometers) between Paris and Marseille in a mere 3 hours, but, to be fair, on dedicated high-speed tracks. The Acela reaches speeds of up to 150 mph somewhere in Rhode Island if I remember correctly, which is slightly lower than the AVERAGE speed of 155 mph between Paris and Marseille! The USA, where I have lived for 34 years now, is the perfect country for high-speed rail, it would take roughly 18 hours to reach Los Angeles from Washington, DC, about 2700 miles apart, at an average speed of 150 mph! Hey, we can always dream, right?

Il y a une chose que je n’ai pas compris. Pendant le trajet; (que j’avoue avoir écourté) on entend deux sonneries. Une plutôt agressive qui fait limite pensée au vieux téléphone à cadran, et une autre. Si une doit être relative à l’anti endormissement et vérifie que le conducteur n’est pas mort d’une crise cardiaque pendant le trajet ... à quoi correspond l’autre sonnerie ? La sonnerie de l’homme endormi 💤 c’est laquelle ?

At 300 to 320km/h the railway signal are inside the cab via a specific screen indicating speed limit and speed to come. Because obviously he is going too fast to read anything in front of him.
