Just a point of interest: I don't know if you've taken a look at the manfredi3692 YT channel, but posted there in pieces is a run along the old line from Udine to Tarvisio and Udine to Villach. Of course, being recorded ~30 years ago, the audio/visual quality isn't up to today's standards, but it's still very nice to be able to see the old route. Similarly, that channel also has the old run up the south ramp of the Brenner Pass, before, for instance, the Schlern and Pflersch Tunnels became operational. Just thought these 2 items might pique your interest a bit.

Very pleasant to watch. I skipped much of the tunnels, but I understand why they were left unedited. The videos of this talented Slovenian KZbin contributor gave me the idea to resume traveling by train in Europe, particularly in Italy. I want to hear again "Allontanarsi dalla linea gialla!" By the way, I last traveled by train in Italy in 2012. I see substantial improvement in the design and look of the stations, the tracks, the power lines, the engines and passenger cars.

The videos are so entertaining that knowing the details I asked about is not essential. Thanks!

Giulio Catalucci Thank you for your comment. I always put this note in the description of the video - Please note that the speed data is GPS based and can be very inaccurate. It might indicate a different speed than the actual speed. - and as the origin of the data is the same for altitude, sometimes the values are not exact. But I think that it gives us a good feeling about the speed and elevation changes along the route.

Sadly, the construction dates of some of those tunnels indicate that this would have been an impossible journey in 1995. I say that, since in that year I was working as an intern on an archaeological dig in Osnabrück during my studies as a part-time mature undergraduate in Geography with German at the University of Derby and one of my colleagues on the dig came from Udine, so this otherwise might have been the first stage of her crossing the Alps towards Germany to get to Osnabrück. It was a fairly dramatic journey, nevertheless, so thanks for this.

@@RailRelaxation You're welcome. Since I posted that comment I have found the Deutsche Bahn rail map of 1995 that I still have with a map of the railways of Europe on the reverse and it appears that the Udine-Tarvisio route was apparently identical to what it is today, but it is very small-scale, so it's difficult to tell the detail.

The distortion in this newer wide-angle lens (especially at the left and right edges) is fairly substantial. Is there a way it can be reduced in future videos?

Cab signalling (BAcc, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blocco_Automatico_a_Correnti_Codificate ) ordered an emergency stop due to transmission failure (AC, assenza codice) or simply acknowledgement timeout (there was a temporary speed restriction, restrictive signalling codes must be acknowledged within a due time).

Seconds before the braking there is a board announcing a temporary speed restriction, a yellow hexagon with two yellow lights arranged on a diagonal... I wonder if they had some issue with the temporary balises placed between the rails to enforce the restriction. The actual restricted speed section is in the tunnel just after the viaduct, it begins with a yellow rectangle with two horizontal yellow lights and ends with a green rectangle with a single green light.

Very well done ! Judging by the position of the camera and sound from the microphone, I suppose your equipment is fixed somewhere outside… Don't you fear for it ? and how do you do to get this sound (windy, but not garbled or polluted by wake and turbulence)? Very nice to watch with good headphones !
@RailRelaxation

@nanba25 Thank you very much for the compliment. I mount the camera outside, it is quite well secure and, I use the separate microphone to get better sound. The most complicated thing is to capture a quality sound....but, I am very happy that you find it ok.

Thank you for this High Quality journey! I raelly enjoyed it but didn't know that there were such many long tunnels on this route. Did the route change in the past 20-30 years (most of the tunnels are from 1995 - 2000 according to your subtitles), was there a slower but maybe more scenic route before that?

Mi viene da fare una domanda. Ma perché da P.M. Vat fino più o meno al km 40 perché va così piano su una linea diritta bella e moderna. A mio parere dovrebbe andare almeno e dico almeno a 180/190 kmh invece fatica a raggiungere i 150 kmh. Qualcuno mi sa rispondere? Grazie
@thomasautengruber8369
@thomasautengruber8369 20 күн бұрын
The maximum speed of the line is 180km/h, although ÖBB Railjets are only certified to go 160km/h in Italy (instead of 230km/h) because they limit speeds based on axle loads I believe. I would be interested to know why it travels so slow as well though.
@decorones2643
@decorones2643 Жыл бұрын
I don't understand why this train drives so slowly, like around 100 kph. Actually the pontebbana railway is allowed to be driven 180 kph through the most parts. Actually from Venzone away until Ugovizza Valbruna all the time except the area of Pontebba
