The Caddis Poopah is a fly originally created by Tim Fox in 1990 for use in the Sierra Nevada streams. But this great pattern has made its way across the country and has caught lots of fish along the way. My reason for wanting this fly is to fill a section of the water column that I have been neglecting. I needed a pattern to imitate the emerging caddis. However I still wanted to fish it on my Euro rig so put a small bead on it to still get down but not as quickly. This pattern will be fished on the dropper of my euro leader to keep it higher in the water column and make it more of an emerging insect rather than a nymph.
Make sure to tie this pattern in multiple colors to match the vast amount of different species of caddis in your area. Stick with the black color for the most part but switch the color of the chenille. If you need any of the material to tie this fly please go to our website, www.holsingers..., for all your fly tying and fishing needs. Thanks for watching and supporting the shop and channel.

That is a great fly. We have caddis down where I live in North Carolina, and I will tie up a few and give them a try. Thank you for making the tying tutorial, it really helps seeing the steps and "little nuances" that are not shown in books.

Hi Shawn and Happy New Year. I’ve been focused on saltwater tying since striped bass season and trips to some Caribbean flats, but spring is just around the corner. It’s nice to start thinking about trout fishing again. Catch you on the next video.

Thanks Tom. Have fun on your trips to the Caribbean. I don’t have any trips for me on the books yet. I’m gonna have to do something about that. 😂

Sure thing use whatever color you have. The trout isn’t going to look that closely at you fly to tell the difference. They are going to look at it, think it’s food, and eat it.

That's a good one, Shawn. Guy who showed me it liked a cream colored or burnt orange version. My best luck is definitely olive.

Olive is definitely gonna be my go to spring and early summer. We have lots of rock worms and Rhyacophila in my area so the olive will be perfect. Summer is our tan Caddis and the fall is October Caddis so those colors would all work great in my area.
