I gotta be honest. I gave up on dark 5x because it was so confusing and went for so many episodes and it was all in German. It's not the kinda show you can kick back and chill. You really have to think hard to follow the story and still you need KZbin video and tree diagrams to understand what's going on. This movie is a condensed version in English and I still didn't get it. LoL

What I still dont get…and its really bugging me, is how Anna got the necklace if Ellie took it from the truck??? Like how could she even get it from Celeste if Ellie took it before she was born? Someone explain! Besides that, great movie!

Because there were actually two. It's a prime example of the bootstrap paradox that is present within the film. We essentially see two of the same necklace in the film. The first one is the one Anna finds in Celeste's jewellery box. She wears it when she time travels to 1952 and continues to wear it for the rest of her life. It's then passed onto Paris after her death. The second one is the one Paris finds in the lake. Later on in the film, we learn that it was dropped there by Ellie as she was travelling out of 2005. Paris shows Celeste both necklaces and leaves them with her after he leaves. He then goes missing. We then see both necklaces again when Ellie encounters her past mother and infant self in 2005. One is hanging from the rear view mirror in Celeste's pick up truck (that's the one she takes) and the other is being worn by Celeste (that's the one Anna finds and then wears when she time travels to 1952). Ellie takes the one from the pick up truck and then drops it in the lake as she's travelling out of 2005. Both necklaces suffer from the same thing: the bootstrap paradox. Basically, neither necklace have an origin. The first necklace Anna gets from Celeste, Celeste got it from Paris, Paris got it from his mother Anna, Anna got it from Celeste, etc. The cycle repeats. The second necklace Ellie gets from Celeste, Celeste got it from Paris, Paris got it from the lake where it was dropped by Ellie, Ellie got it from Celeste, etc. Again, the cycle repeats.

The thing is, I wonder if they were the only ones who could time travel. It seems like they were only able to hear things from the different times that would draw them to that spot of the river

No there's others who time travelled too as you see wolves and other animals time travelled too. It's like Outer Range where a hole appears and disappears and if you jump in it you can travel back and forth thru time.

It seems like only Anna's direct lineage could time travel. The spouse's/ partners could not. It had me thinking that maybe that was the case because they are all direct effects of Anna staying in the incorrect time. Their existence is directly because of the portal, so they have an innate connection to it. Maybe spiritually, similar to how indigenous people have a direct connection to the land they reside on.

Oh man you missed the main concept of the plot. Who stole heroine's boat, it's her, heroine's copy version, another heroin stole that boat, you never talk about double action, one heroin went to 1952 & another one remains in current timeline. That's why in climax they are not only Mom & daughter also sisters. The best time travel concept i ever seen in my entire life 🖤 mind blowing screen play 🖤 perfect twists

Everything is a loop so eventually the Ellie that the "first Ellie" sees go into her house will also eventually steal the boat. Anna is Ellie's stepsister and her grandmother not mother. Celeste is Ellie's mother.

You should do a video on Easter eggs. I'm having a hard time finding them. I mean, we're not going to get anything like Back to the Future's Twin Pines Mall becoming Lone Pine Mall, but there should still be things like, I dunno, a picture on Paris's dresser of his mom when she was a little kid and by looking closely being able to see it's a picture of actress Carolyn Falk, who plays Anna. To be clear, I just made that up, but stuff like that. I haven't found anything like that yet, though. There's got to be some. Also, what the heck did that alligator being cut cleanly in half, so not attacked by wolves, have to do with anything? Explain that. BTW, it was a mistake for them to write it like Ellie didn't immediately recognize her mom back in 2005, or herself, for that matter, her mom even holding her at the time. I would recognize my mom IMMEDIATLEY if I bumped into a younger version of her, and my entire world would flip upside down. Even her own memories go back to when her mom looked like that. Then there's pictures she's seen of her mom and of herself. It's just not realistic. They could've just as easily played it like she recognized her right off and had it all end up the same, so that was a mistake. The same goes for Paris and his mom. Who doesn't know what their mom looked like when she was little. Sure, he wouldn't have ever seen pictures of his mom younger than that, but he'd have seen pictures of her that age. Also, you can't tell me that in a lifetime of growing up with her that she wouldn't have ever told some fantastical tale of how she traveled through time or some how made it known that she knew about historical events that hadn't happened yet, so there's that, too.
