1:05:58 That bug happens on PS2 regularly with the PAL version. The reason for this is that the original PS1 lags a tiny bit during the fall, which gives the game time to load the bonus. The PS2 does not have that lag, and as you fall faster in the PAL version, you reach a kill plane before the bonus loads completely. That's also why it does not happen again on you next try: the bonus was already loaded.

2:10:02 Ripper Roo, the Komodo Brothers and Tiny are actually working for Brio to stop Crash giving the crystals to Cortex. N Gin's the only one actually working with Cortex. He even mentions to Cortex in the opening cutscene that they won't be able to get the crystals because they have no henchmen left. That's why Cortex tricks Crash into collecting the crystals for him by pretending the planets will align and destroy the world unless Cortex uses a crystal powered Cortex Vortex to contain the energy. When really he wants to brainwash everyone into being his slaves. Brio's pissed off that Cortex took credit for the Evolvo Ray that Brio created and the creatures he created from it so he wanted to use gem power to destroy the Vortex and the space station and kill Cortex.

The reason why that death animation of Crash Bandicoot getting squashed was censored in Japan was because during that year there was a notorious serial killer who would murder his victims & leave their decapitated heads in their shoes. So in the Japanese version of Crash 2 they censored that death animation of Crash getting squashed & made him flat as a pancake.

The other TNT there didn't explode for some reason and this is the box that he ends up missing. 2:00:40 When the TNT explodes on screen it correctly shows as 2 crates being destroyed. The amusing thing about the PAL version of Crash 2 is that it is preferred for speedrunning. When you perform a neutral slide spin in the PAL version, your momentum is significantly higher than it is in the NTSC version. The neutral slide spin is only doable in the ps1 Crash 2, as in Crash 3 you cannot move anywhere without continued movement input.

I herd somewhere that the way boxes work in crash 1 was due to a bug that caused the boxes to respawn when you died.. I don't remember the specifics of the bug but this means Crash 2 onward was how crash 1's boxes were supposed to work. Meanwhile They kept this 'no death, all boxes' in the n sane trilogy but only for coloured gems probably to make them more special.

In Crash 1, extra lives were clearly intended for casual players (whose experience were to end with beating Cortex), while the Gems seems to have been intended for perfectionists (hence why anything less than a perfect run would result in no Gem; perfectionists wouldn't settle for that). The target audience for perfect completion was simply eased up on in later titles. It's not that there was no sense behind it, it was just not most common sense due to the target audience.

Hmm, apparently the original game also has the box tally hint for the Blue Gem! After getting the clear gem, the tally tells you that no boxes have to be broken (like say, if you break 35 boxes, it says 35/0).

So I played Cortex Strikes Back for a while. Got the purple crystal and an achievement in the N.Sane version for "forgetting" Cortex's plan.
