You'd get a huge kick out of my personal favorite concept record. From 2004, underground rappers Cage & Tame One came together under the name Leak Bros. to make an album called Waterworld. Being the only record they made together, it's a concept album about both of em being ridiculously and morbidly high on embalming fluid/PCP. Buuut... here's the catch. They're both rapping their freakin asses off with super clever bars and going into grave detail about their experiences on it. The whole album is like them writing a love letter to the drug itself and giving PCP all of their appreciation with every fiber of their being despite the harrowing downward spiral-esque life consequences that come with being relentlessly wrecked out of their minds. Even the beats match the aesthetic of the drug since they make it very clear that the shit is supposed to be referred to as leak, wet, dip, etc. Trust me, I'd never consider trying PCP and they certainly do not make it sound fun by any means. However, I've always found the album endlessly captivating with a crazy amount of replay value. A true hidden gem

The first 2 Mars Volta albums came to mind for me because the underlying concept in each is largely based on personal tragedies, but conveyed in a super surreal and cryptic way lyrically. Did not know that Lift to Experience was a concept album.

If your looking for some Bizarre albums it doesn't get much stranger then lumpy gravy by frank zappa (zappa wrote and composed 2 classical suits, put mics inside of a piano and record various spoken word conversations about topics ranging from gas stations to living in a piano and he recorded surf rock music, he then cut these tapes up with a razer and reattached them).

I feel super lucky the algorithm blessed me with this one. I love concept albums, and Deltron 3030 was the only one on the list I'd heard of. Hoping to find more recs in the comments :) My personal recommendations: The Archandroid and Electric Lady by Janelle Monae which are more afrofuturism about a robot the falls in love with a human and ends up hunted for the crime. Just amazing hiphop/funk/r&b/pop/jazz songs. Anything by Ayreon, a project by Arjen Anthony Lucassen. It is technically metal but extremely eclectic in nature and worth checking out even if you dont like most metal. Top albums are the Universal Migrator, the story of the last human on mars going back in time (preincarnating) to the creation of the universe. Or The Electric Castle, an ensemble album about a group of humans from across history brought to a castle outside of time to be tested by humanity's creators.

Agreed on those Janelle Monae albums. Both of them are mind-meltingly great

my chemical romance's first two albums (i brought you my bullets, you brought me your love and three cheers for sweet revenge) are my favorite concept albums of all time. i like the way they come together to complete the story.

I love concept albums but I'm old so my latest references are all 90s/00s. It's hard to find good recs of strange music so i appreciate this video
