Here we are, 2024. It’s been 15 years since this absolutely legendary lick dropped. 09 was my freshman year and this was played throughout all of my high school, college and even the start of my drum corps years. hahaha, i started playing this at a jersey surf audition with one of my friends, and soon there were like 20 drummers all playing circle of life. this was immediately follow by the snare tech saying "Circle of life is banned forever."

15 years later, and I’m using this to inspire the next generation: I sent this to my nephew who’s just starting drumline, at the same high school as me (c/o 2016) and his dad (c/o 2007). The marching arts look very different than they did when most of the people here (myself included) were involved. We need to continue to support marching arts as we get older, regardless of whether we agree with the artistry or not; marching band means the same thing to these kids as it did to us when we were doing it.

It truly amazes me how this one man, with this one video and the one lick has affected almost everybody in the world of rudimental marching percussion. You can ask someone what jeff queen or tim jackson solo they've heard and and they probably won't know but then ask them, well have you heard the Circle of life lick and almost all of them will say yes. it just blows my mind lol, its good family fun for everyone.
