Sweeping aside nearly 2,000 years of doubt and mystery, ongoing excavations in Germany’s Teutoburg Forest have revealed the location of one of the bloodiest battles of antiquity.
In 9 AD, an arrogant Roman general, Publius Varus, anticipated that he would easily suppress several rebellious Germanic tribes, after which he could leisurely march his troops to their winter campsite. Unfortunately for Varus and three of Rome’s crack legions, he walked into an elaborate and well-organized ambush. With innovative computer graphics we will reconstruct how the battle may have been fought.
Through evidence unearthed at the excavations, interviews with specialists, etchings, original illustrated graphics, and text narrated from the Roman historians, this episode will reveal the test of wills and tactics that led to one of Rome’s major military disasters.

Like it or not, the Romans had an empire. During Caesar's Gallic Wars, the Romans were in control of the Italian peninsula, Sicily, Corsica, North Africa (the former Carthaginian empire), the Iberian peninsula, Macedon, Greece, the former Seleucid empire, and Pergamum had been voluntarily willed to them upon their last regent's demise. I highly recommend that when you upload an older video (which appear as a new video to your followers) you not only provide the video's original air date in the description, you also add a comment clarifying the video's age and provide a short disclaimer explaining how newer discoveries have/may have changed our understanding of history

@@richardhowe4140 What drives a person to have passion for a specific cause is very personal. I cannot provide a specific example from a blind perspective. I will emphasize that even the smallest effort can have a tremendous impact. So, a global example is how the pollution from plastics is killing our world, especially our oceans. You could start with picking up litter in your community then move on to organizing recycling events then move further up to head a community effort to influence policy changes that would reduce plastic consumption and then push community leaders/politicians to implement laws (or to prosecute existing laws) and reach even higher to implement the laws at the federal level.

Very disappointing and inaccurate documentary. Curious they did not visit Kalkriese nor discuss the 1987 finding of major Roman artifacts already showing the site of the battle. The battle more than likely seems to have lasted a minimum of 2 days, and probably lasted 4 or more. Also, calling Varus arrogant and portraying him as a fool is propaganda put out by his political enemies. While Varus was not the most brilliant general, he was competent and had served well leading campaigns in other areas. He was simply lured into a trap by a man he trusted (Arminius/Hermann) and he paid the price.
