It’s sooo good! We played this at PaxU and i was blown away. This 100% feels like tango. There’s palpable tension between the dancers and it all comes to some wonderful moves during gameplay. In addition, you can play in 10 minutes. Doesn’t take 20 😜 we played about 10 times and didn’t grow tired of it. So so good

EXCELLENT GAME. The “surrounding an area” mechanic reminds me of Knizia’s Samurai from 1998, but this is a bit simpler, which makes it worth acquiring. This game has the cleverness seen in some more complex euro’s, but without the 2 hour time suck and rule heavy game play. The tightness of the flow in this game is extremely attractive - a very chess like feel without getting the brain too mushy. Tactical and Strategic play in 20 minutes ! I must have this and I will.

Loved the review. I had an idea for a video series “Tom’s Tens” where you go over all your 10/10 games. You could also go over the 9’s and 8’s in other videos. Maybe it would be a lot more work than it’s worth, but maybe it could pan out.

The more reviews I read/watch for Caesar in 20, the closer I'm getting to my wallet. Tom - I can see the glint of the possibilities in your eye during the review so I'm gonna grab it and whine "But Tom Vasel gave it an 8!" when my wife sees yet another game on the dining table as I feverishly punch out the cardboard. My one caveat is the components: they look a bit spartan (in Rome?) but the older version of Condottiere is no oil painting but - like many - I see beyond this and enjoy the game without bemoaning its lack of movie star looks. Additionally, I'm not too sure how long the cardboard tokens will survive the nervous, gloating, triumphant, or resigned manhandling they'll be subjected to (no War Chest quality chips to rattle around in the bag) but the essence of the game looks filled with real replayability, decisions, with a good dollop of The Luck O' The Bag added in.

My friend and I really enjoyed Blitzkrieg! and just played five back-to-back games of this and was extremely impressed - both slightly preferring it to Blitzkrieg!. One of the best 2p only games along with the likes of Targi and 7 Wonders Duel in my opinion.

Aside from the special action tokens, reminds me of like a 2 player version of Samurai.

Looks like a game that could be Print and Play or with smaller, foldable board as a quick, travel game. Adding to "want to play" collection.

Have you played the new version of Blitzkrieg with the expansion board on the back? I only have the original one and wondered if getting the new version would be worth it.

Yes, I really like the expansion board.

Not having played the game, just watched this review my first thought was: Inspired by Reiner Knizias Samurai.

This game and Blitzkrieg need GeekUp Bits. Or at least wooden screenprinted discs.

Yeah, the tokens are really bad quality and start disintegrating almost immediately

I would probably get that if they made them!

If you flip an opponents influence token, and consequently you exert more power in the opponent-controlled region, do you remove their control token and replace it with one of your own? Or is the control token forever set once put down?

I'd really like to try a game of this, but man is it ugly! I think I'd be really hard pressed to get someone to play this with me if I owned it.. Maybe one day I'll see someone who owns a copy 😅

Are you sure? I was immediately captivated by the semplicity and elegance of round tokens divided in half... I think it might easily capture the attention ohf many people
@ko92 жыл бұрын
@@stefanopaolini1345 I'm pretty sure.. It puts me off as well tbh, it just looks sort of like a prototype of a war game someone's made to show at a convention. The people I've shown this game to thus far have all instantly dismissed it as uninteresting because of how it looks. If the looks appeal to you, great! I wish it had a look that would appeal to me 😅

I found blitzkrieg more complex personally with all the special ability things, but maybe you meant strategically more complex. I really like ceasar! Glad you finally got your hands on it.

I hate that every game has to have a single player variant nowdays. People without friends should play computer games or get a puzzle, or even better get some friends.

You don't have to play the solo mode.
@rockshrimp2 жыл бұрын
This complaint makes no sense and comes off as rather vindictive and mean-spirited. A solo mode is a nice-to-have for people who want it and has 0 effect on those who don't. Really strange.
@AnaIvanovic4ever2 жыл бұрын
@@rockshrimp I think you are wrong, designers are forced to create convoluted solo versions for all games now, leading to higher prices and/or less time spent on the real game.
@vzjrz2 жыл бұрын
I also hate how every game has a 3-5 and sometimes 6 player mode. I only play games with my partner and every time I buy a board game it feels like I'm buying extra meeples and extra stuff that I'll never use! Game publishers should just print one copy and send it directly to my house! Why doesn't the whole world revolve around ME!
@AnaIvanovic4ever2 жыл бұрын
@@vzjrz Great sarcasm, not. I find it sad boardgames have turned into toys for lonely man-childs. I wish they could collect Star Wars toys or something instead, so not every board game has to turn into a $120 game with miniatures and solo rules for loners.
