The last girl is spot on. Even if you don't like beignets, you have to hit up Café du Mondé just for the tradition. Cool joint.

My guess is that she doesn't even like it, there's no evidence of her even ordering them. Although I can imagine her ordering one beignet without powdered sugar on top of it. Or maybe with less powdered sugar.

I was at Cafe du Monde a number of times when I was a student at LSU in Baton Rouge. Every time in New Orleans, we Malaysian students would never failed to drop over at Cafe du Monde for the famous beignets and its cafe au lait. After that we would take a leisurely walk in the French Quarter, Jackson Square and other places. That was many years ago, I am Malaysian, now in Malaysia, but those were sweet memories in New Orleans,,

Not fortunate enough to say that I was raised in NOLA, but I come from a family that came from there. I LOVE this city. Man oh man, I gotta find a way to go back. When I think about New Orleans I think of 4 things: - The amazing culture mixes (not to mention the accents and art). - The Saints (WHO DAT Nation for life). - Jazz (can't go nowhere without hearing brass, and I'm 100% okay with that). - Cafe du Monde (you ain't gotta have your phone out to enjoy your time with their Beignets and their coffee).

In France, beignets are doughnuts... They're circular, with a filling, never had them served hot either. Maybe US doughnuts are different to what we call a doughnut in Europe so for you they're different but for us they're the same (pancakes and waffles are very different in the US too). I remember when I was a child, in the summer the beignet seller would come onto the beach with a big cooler full of them. Sometimes I'd have a chocolate-filled one as a treat, fantastic. I remember marvelling at how big they were, it would probably look small now!

Mountain looking hills And deep valleys with a oceans view behind it all Twisting roads And the smell of cedar and pine Everyone drives slow to catch a glimpse of a Moose grazing As a hazy fog covers the valley floor ...We loved it there

The important differences between between a beignet and a donut are 1. A beignet is hot and fresh with powder sugar, a perfect combination with coffee and 2. "beignet" sounds so cool compares to donut.
