I feel like this song is about him seeing how hurt others are ('Not a lot of people left around'). How hard life is in general, and he doesn't want to give up regardless of the price (The lyrics 'Break me down' or 'I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun'). Truly a beautiful song; it hits the soul and I think that's the point too.
