I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun
Turn back now, it's time for me to let go
Way down, had to find a place to lay low
Lamp shade, turned around into a light post

+GeneralCane because you know that you're truly alone and no one loves you. you'll die alone in your apartment and no one will find you until you havent paid your rent for 3 months and they bang down the door to evict you, only to find your rotting dead body in your bed. no one will roll over, touch and cry when they find out you're dead because nobody loves and nobody ever has.

This song got me through the hardest time in my life,I was suicidal and in and out of the hospital. I was miserable but the one part of this song got me through it all and it’s the “even on a cloudy day part” because bad days were just cloudy days to me. 10 years later I’m still here and sometimes I like to think this song saved me from myself.

Darlene Woodring first felt this feeling when I was 7yrs old, I cried to my dad about it. He told me that life would be filled with so many important people in my life and ultimately they would leave me or I them, and although saddening their impact on me would help shape who I will grow into. I’m 27 right now and every now and then I think about that moment and it makes me tear knowing that there are people in my life who I love that could be gone a minute from now.

My best friend and I jammed to these guys and saw them live together. I'd always shed a tear when this song came on, to her surprise and endearment. After she passed, I bawled to this song, but always came back to it as a source of comfort, like the sad happiness that comes with seeing someone you've lost in your dreams. I hope she saw me on her way out.

We take life for granted, don’t we? We take aging for granted. When we are young, death is an abstract. It only happens to the very old, or to distant people. Never to us, or to those in our hemisphere. But the older I get, the more I realize that death inevitably attends the last day of both young and old, pauper and king. He isn’t choosy. Whether we view him as a friend or foe doesn’t matter, he is the ferryman out of this world and will insinuate himself into every life, wanted or not. Like a morbid game of tag. Ready or not, here I come. Very rarely are we ready. And never when it happens to someone we love. I was thinking of my son and myself while watching the video. He assumes I will live to be a hundred and that he will have plenty of time to say good-bye before Death’s delivery driver comes to gather my body. He is young and so for him it feels as though there is always a tomorrow: Tomorrow he will be responsible. Tomorrow he will come visit. Tomorrow he will call. Tomorrow he will “adult” and in a time viewed only from a distance, he imagines he will sit at the side of my bed, kiss my wrinkled cheek and hand the keys over to the scythe-wielding chauffeur. But today he won’t give it any thought. Today he is young and unencumbered. Tomorrow is a horizon not even in his view. Perhaps that is as it should be. I wish death were always so well thought out and convenient. But it is not. Sometimes death comes early. On occasion he surprises us. He dresses as a heart attack or a traffic accident and steals our loved ones away when we weren’t ready. So, let’s do this: Let’s settle our accounts regularly; Love out loud! Hug often. Kiss those cheeks now while they are warm. Call just because. Be caring. Be selfless. Be forgiving. Say, ‘I love you’. Take advantage of the time you have been given. Then, when death comes for the ones you love, you still won’t be ready, but you will have no regrets. You will know that they knew, they were cherished by you. And when it comes for you, you will be satisfied that you loved well.

Shake me down, not a lot of people left around Who knows now? Softly laying on the ground, ooh Not a lot people left around, ooh, ooh In my life, I have seen people walk into the sea Just to find memories, plagued by constant misery Their eyes cast down, fixed upon the ground Their eyes cast down I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun Shake me down, cut my hair on a silver cloud Broken sound Softly laying on the ground, ooh Not a lot people left around, ooh, ooh In my past, bittersweet, there's no love between the sheets Taste the blood, broken dreams, lonely times indeed With eyes cast down, fixed upon the ground With eyes cast down I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun Turn back, now it's time for me to let go Way down, had to find a place to lay low Lampshade turned around into a light post Walk around the corner, never saw it coming Still I try to make a move, it almost stopped me from believin' I don't wanna know the future But I'm like rolling thunder Even on a cloudy day, even on a cloudy day Even on a cloudy day, even on a cloudy day Even on a cloudy day, even on a cloudy day Even on a cloudy day I'll keep my eyes fixed on the I'll keep my eyes fixed on the I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun Shake me down Not a lot of people left around Ooh, ooh

In this ever changing world in which we live in it's tough to loose all you love remember hoped for and finally lost and tried hopelessly to find again in vain and then it's your turn nobody knows you cares or wants to its doom n grace fully trying to deal with. Being a stranger in your own town as everybody lies 6 feet underground and the ones you want to hear your message aren't around it ain't easy you know how hard it can be the way things are goin their gonna crucify me an old forgotten carpet that was the path to the palace and now of course noone gives a shazam about the old stories and glory of your killin past that was excellent.

Her dad eventually worked as a translator for the special forces and worked out of baghram airfield for over 10 years. You prob walked right past him once or twice. Crazy world

I've seen this music video so many times, but I always get a few tears at 2:46 It just makes me think how this man, who's probably done so much in his lifetime, sees her and his face turns into a form of peace. And when it turns to him being found dead by her, it hurts me so much. To find a loved one gone just like that overnight. No goodbye or last few words. And to notice how happy she was when she woke up to see him next to her only to realize that he's moved on.... Her look of sadness is heartbreaking.

[You're welcome] Shake me down, Not a lot of people left around, Who knows now, Softly laying on the ground, oh Not a lot people left around, oh, oh In my life, I have seen, People walk into the sea, Just to find memories, Plagued by constant misery, Their eyes cast down, Fixed upon the ground, Their eyes cast down I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun Shake me down, Cut my hair on a silver cloud, Broken sound, Softly laying on the ground, oh Not a lot people left around, oh, oh In my past, bittersweet, There's no love between the sheets, Taste the blood, broken dreams, Lonely times indeed, With eyes cast down, Fixed upon the ground, Eyes cast down I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun Turn back now its time for me to let go, Way down had to find a place to lay low, Lampshade turned around into a light post Walk around the corner, Never saw it coming still, I try to make a move, It almost stopped me from belief, I don't wanna know the future, But I'm like rolling thunder, Even on a cloudy day, Even on a cloudy day, Even on a cloudy day, Even on a cloudy day, Even on a cloudy day, Even on a cloudy day, Even on a cloudy day, I'll keep my eyes fixed on the I'll keep my eyes fixed on the I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun Shake me down, Not a lot of people left around

I know that this is going to get buried and most won't read, but I want to put this out there. This is my favorite song. I remember a song lyric breakdown and someone mentioned that it was a song about Matt's struggle with addiction and it's effect on his friends and family, and getting away from it. I don't know if that is true or not, but that has played a big part into my getting out of my past darkness that I was surrounded with. This song got me away from drugs and my dependency on it. Thank you CTE, you saved me from that.

When I hear this song, I remember my parent's divorce and the feeling of alienation I received from my peers. it's when you have nobody left that you realize how important are the people around you, the ones close to you. Now I'm alone, the ones I loved are gone and the ones still alive are like enemies. Family ties can be both a blessing or a curse, but I realized that emptiness, estrangement, abandonment hurt much more than a bad relationship with family members.

Heard this so long ago and like man…. Pain, loss, drugs, getting into pretty much a cult, and I’m still here. I came back to this song to reflect on my life. It’s because of cage the elephant that I had such an adventurous life. One I can say was truly filled with something I can tell my grandchildren someday. No regrets

12 years ago as a teen, I discovered CtE and this song and music video helped me cope up with the passing of my grandmother on my father side. And now, my grandmother on my mother side who raised me also passed away. She died in her sleep. This music video made me believe after a few minutes transitioning into the afterlife there's a huge clear flashback of someone's life. I hope during those last moments of her life, she saw clearly how much we love and appreciate her. All the moments that we kiss her, hug her, thank her, told her we're sorry for our shortcomings and to tell her we love her deeply. I'm finding ways to cope up and to properly grieve. Music helps a lot. This song and band will always have a special place in my heart.

Came across this. And instantly my late brother came to mind. The times we just sat there and jammed out to this song. And many others, the times we shared together I will never get to do again. But the memories are great too. Thinking you're in a better place. I love bro and miss you forever. Until we meet again Brian.

Why does this band have so many thumbs downs? Am I being naive? They've single handedly replicated a sound I haven't heard in 25 years without replicating a sound I haven't heard in 25 years. That's talent right? Oasis did it. What's the problem? Credit where credit is due.

For those that struggle with the hard times throughout life's journey. I want you to recall a time in your life that was full of joy and positivity. Now bottle that energy and use it every time life tries to Shake You Down. Be the Protron that converts Neutrons and repels Electrons.

This song can be taken into much context. This is your life. People around you go away. One day you will too. Just keep rowing your little boat, and maybe you'll find happiness over the rainbow.

I just found this song recently and just gotta say it helps shine light on what's to come. Last year I last my father to a heart attack then 4 months later my older brother to a motorcycle accident. It's been a insanely rough transition to becoming the person everyone goes to for answers especially being the youngest but we can only look toward the future

We had a project in high school about analyzing music videos. I chose this one, and I played it in class. When it was over, my incredibly sweet middle-aged English teacher said she needed a minute walked out into the hallway. I felt bad for picking something that literally made her cry. I didn’t really understand her intense emotional reaction, but now that I’m about to be 30, I get it a little more. And I’ll probably get it even more in another 10 years. Incredible music video from a timeless band. Got me an A on the project, too.

I love reading the touching comments on this song. The video is full of fantastic imagery. Two years ago, I coded, and they resuscitated me, but I was in a coma for a week. Many of the 'dreams' that I had while I was out remind me of the visuals in this video. There was a somewhat claustrophobic feeling, as though I was trapped, and being shown things. After I woke up, I felt like this video really helped me sort some things out about what had been happening in my head.

I've listened this song a lot (and others from Cage The Elephant). I've discovered that Shake Me Down is a US slang meaning : rob someone. I've been robbed with a gun in front of me, at my work (I'm a bar tender) 3 month ago ; then my dad died 1 month ago. And I was listening to this song between these two events of my life. I found this song was pretty accurare to these events Now I'm breaking up with my exgirlfriend. But it' time for me to let go and of course, as we all did, I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun ! Oh and I've planed to see Cage the Elephant all alone in a foreign country in their European tour. It's time to be a bit selfish and to do some things for myself ! Cheers all !
